Picture Los Angeles in the late 1980s. When Japanese marque Honda decided in 1986 to conquer the North American market with a luxury brand of its own, Acura was born. It became the very first Japanese premium car brand, laying the foundations for later luxury divisions such as Lexus and Infiniti. The aim was clear: to combine high-grade engineering, exceptional reliability and luxury in cars that could rival the established European names.

Acura's debut proved an instant hit. The Acura Legend in particular grew into the brand's undisputed flagship and played a crucial role in building Acura's prestigious reputation. The blend of refined engineering, high-quality finishing and impressive durability made the Legend a favourite with company drivers and enthusiasts alike.

The Acura Legend was developed in collaboration with Britain's own Rover, yet gained a wholly distinct character thanks to Honda's technical expertise. On its launch, the Legend was immediately praised for its modern design, powerful engines and unrivalled reliability.

By the late eighties, the Acura Legend ranked among the most advanced luxury saloons on the American market. The V6 engine delivered smooth performance, while the comfortable chassis and generous equipment created a driving experience that could match far pricier European rivals of the day.
