1971 was the last year for the hugely popular 113-series ‘Pagoda’ Mercedes. It was also the lowest-production year with only 830 being built (there were 8000 made in each of the other three years!).
This US-spec car was one of those 800, and is still striking in its original #568 ‘Signal Red’ color with contrasting Cream tex interior. It has a replacement tan convertible top in Haartz canvas and retains its factory hardtop.Today it wears just-buffed & polished paint, a nice interior with just-right patina and wood veneers that aren’t splitting or cracked. The spare wheel and set of factory hand tools are in the trunk and the owner’s manual is in the glove box.
It was fitted with the popular trinity of automatic transmission, A/C & power steering, and even better, we have receipts for over $25,000 being spent recently on a complete A/C overhaul including a new compressor plus an oil & transmission service. There are also receipts for rebuilding the fuel injection pump, plus new plugs & injectors, all done by a Mercedes dealership.
Panel gaps are Mercedes-consistent, all chrome is very nice and we have not seen evidence of rust in the car.Our shop handles/restores a lot of 113 Benzes, and this is quite a solid one.
These credentials make the car a very desirable choice for a high-level ‘driver’ that is ready for years of enjoyment…instead of the months of repairs many ho-hum 113s out there will torture you with—after all, these cars are all over fifty years old!
Priced below Hagerty’s #2 price point for a quick late-summer sale, so don’t overlook this desirable Pagoda.
