A first-generation Camaro is one of the most desirable models of the muscle car era. It not only looks great but also represents one of the most successful Chevrolet models of all time. This 1969 model puts that all on display with its classic lines, modern paint, SS trim, and big block power.
This attractive Camaro was built at the Los Angeles plant in February 1969 and spent much of its life in California as evidenced by its rust-free body and underside. The car was repainted in green metallic and features custom pinstriping by Howard Zeller along with SS accents and 396 badging. The paint is 25 years old and still looks good with just a few blemishes. Other features include a cowl hood with functional induction setup and a rear spoiler. All weatherstripping has been replaced and the windows have been tinted. The Rally wheels with trim rings are wrapped in BF Goodrich tires from 2020 (205/70R14 front, 255/60R15 rear).
The engine is a 396 cubic inch big block that was rebuilt and blueprinted by Superior Automotive in 2001. Dyno sheets show 395 hp and a robust 437 ft-lb of torque. It is adorned with chrome accents along with a March alternator bracket, MSD ignition, and stainless steel headers. A conventional open element air cleaner is present along with a factory style lower housing with snorkel and cowl hood seal. The transmission is a TH400 automatic which was also rebuilt in 2001 with a shift kit, and it employs a custom kickdown controller for improved downshifting. This is followed by a 12-bolt rear end containing 3.31 gears with Positraction. Other equipment includes power steering and power front disc brakes.
The interior is standard black vinyl with woodgrain accents. The bucket seats include headrests and shoulder belts. All upholstery is in good condition except for a small patch in the driver’s left lower bolster. Looking at the instrument panel shows a speedometer on the left and 8k tachometer on the right, while the center console contains a horseshoe shifter and four rectangular gauges. A factory tilt steering column is topped by a leather wrapped steering wheel. All lights, turn signals, horn, wipers, and parking brake work properly. You will also find a vintage Pace AM/FM/8-track stereo system that is fully functional! The trunk compartment was done in spatter paint with clear coat. Finally, a car cover, dash pad, front license plate bracket, and repair manual are all included.
1969 Camaros continue to show strong demand. From basic 6-cylinder models to million-dollar ZL1’s, they draw plenty of attention. This one is no exception. With all the features described above, it’s a nice example of what makes these cars so popular.
