1983 Buick Regal – Original California Survivor – only 61,100 Miles
Offered for sale is an exceptionally well-preserved 1983 Buick Regal with approximately 61,100 original miles. This is a remarkably original, unrestored example that retains its original paint, original interior, original drivetrain and factory trim, and has been garage kept throughout its life.
The Regal spent its first 35 years in the San Francisco Bay Area, where I purchased it in 2013 with 33,000 miles as its second owner. It remained in California until 2018, when it relocated with me to Chicago. Since arriving in Illinois, the car has continued to be garage kept and driven only during the summer months, avoiding Chicago winters and salted roads.
Finished in its original brown metallic paint with a matching brown vinyl roof, the car presents exceptionally well for being more than 40 years old. The body is practically rust-free, and the car has never been involved in an accident. The original chrome bumpers and brightwork, Regal badging, grille, vinyl roof and Buick wire-style wheels remain in place and give the car the unmistakable appearance of an early-1980s Buick personal luxury coupe.
The brown cloth interior is entirely original and in mint condition. The original seats, carpeting, dashboard, steering wheel, woodgrain trim, controls and factory Delco AM/FM cassette stereo have all been retained. A Pioneer stereo was added separately, allowing the original factory radio and dashboard presentation to remain intact.
Power comes from Buick's 3.8-liter V6, paired with its original automatic 4-speed transmission. The car starts, runs, drives, shifts and brakes properly, without any known mechanical issues. It has received regular maintenance and normal wear-item replacements during my ownership. The battery was most recently replaced in 2025.
The factory air-conditioning system remains installed and operational, although it currently blows warm rather than cold and will require servicing if the next owner wants fully functioning A/C.
The car remains essentially as Buick built it. The only non-original additions are the aforementioned stereo and a Viper security/alarm system installed in 2014. There have been no other known modifications.
The Regal currently carries Illinois Expanded-Use Antique Vehicle registration. Documentation and records are available, including materials relating to the car's history and maintenance.
Highlights
This Regal represents an increasingly difficult type of classic car to find: an honest, unrestored survivor with low original mileage and decades of careful ownership. Its long California history, original finishes and interior, minimal modifications and continued garage storage make it a particularly appealing example for someone looking to preserve and enjoy an authentic early-1980s Buick.
The car is currently located in Chicago, Illinois. Additional photographs, documentation and information are available upon request. Inspections are welcome.
Note: I will be travelling abroad between 20 September and 8 October. During this period, viewing the car will not be possible, however, I will be available to answer any questions.
