These new top of the line cars helped Ford record its best sales year since 1923. The big Ford was available in three levels of trim, the base Mainline models, the intermediate level Customline, and the top of the line Fairlane. All models came with the standard six cylinder and optional V8 power. Motor Trend named the entire Ford line its "Car of the Year" for 1956. For consignment, a 1956 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria 2 door hardtop with a title verified 103,575 actual miles. This example's transmission was recently serviced and the car has been garage kept during our consignor's ownership.

Exterior
The Fiesta Red paint neatly covers the roof and vertical panels where sweeping side trim sends an ever widening band from the front fenders, down to the door where it then bounces to trail straight back to the tail. Robust stainless trim lines the red roof and curved rear window while subtle fins top a Thunderbird like rear fascia. Colonial White covers the hood and points north of the side spear, and the entire rear deck. 15-inch wheels share the red and white motif with painted steel, white wall tires, and red crested Ford hubcaps. Our tires have a mid 2020 date code and perforated wind wings perch near the vent windows. Imperfections include chips, inclusions, edgewear, and some off color touch ups.

Interior
The color palette continues on the inside where the red alternates with white on the door panels in a pattern that exemplifies the 50's, and both present nicely with some minor scuffs on the driver's. The bench seat frame Brocade-like red cloth in white vinyl and this pattern is repeated in the back and both look great. Up front, the red steering wheel fronts a factory dash and instruments backed by a bright, white faceplate. The glossy red dash hovers over vent levers and an AM/FM/Cassette radio and a stylized Ford call out whips across the glovebox. Red carpet hugs the floor and a white perforated headliner presents in good shape. The trunk holds a spare and is covered by a plaid vinyl mat, all clean.

Drivetrain
The bay presents cleanly with a 292ci Thunderbird V8 with a block in red, and black valve covers. It's rated at 200 horsepower and fueled via a 4-barrel carburetor. Ford-O-Matic provides the 3-speed automatic transmission and it throws power back to a Ford 9 inch rear. The car is equipped with power brakes and power steering.

Undercarriage
Structurally very sound, and generally clean with some typical surface rust and residual onl on the pan. Power drum brakes are on all four wheels and the dual exhaust runs through glasspack style mufflers before exiting out the epic bumper ports. Suspension consists of coil springs in front, and leaf springs in the rear.

Drive-Ability
This car started without a hiccup, shifts beautifully, has a great cushy ride, and is comfortable to sit in. It's definitely a boulevard cruiser with great visibility through the post free cabin and other than the clock, all functions operate in this amazing American relic from the 50's. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.
