INTRODUCTION: Few cars capture the classic Ferrari experience quite
like the 308 GTSi. Its Pininfarina styling, mid-engine V8, gated
shifter and removable Targa top have made it one of the most
recognizable and desirable Ferraris of its era. It may not be the
fastest Ferrari ever built, but that's hardly the point- it's
sporty, engaging and an absolute blast to drive. This example has
been serviced and presents very nicely throughout.
EXTERIOR: The 308 GTSi helped establish a Ferrari design formula
that still influences the brand today- low, wide and unmistakably
exotic. The Pininfarina designed body features the iconic pop up
headlights, recessed door handles, dramatic side air intakes and
classic blacked out accents. Of course, the GTSi features the
removable Targa roof, giving you open air driving while retaining
that gorgeous 308 profile. This one was born Rosso Corsa red, and
the finish presents beautifully with a smooth, glossy shine. The
windshield is exceptionally clear, and it retains its original
Ferrari alloy wheels. Even the tires are the correct Michelins in
the proper size, giving the car an especially authentic
appearance.
INTERIOR: It is classic Ferrari- you sit incredibly low, surrounded
by an intimate, driver focused cockpit. The original leather seats
have firm cushions, no significant wear, although the leather does
show aging. Everything remains stock with the exception of an
upgraded stereo system. The analog gauges, Nardi steering wheel and
iconic gated shifter deliver the nostalgic Ferrari experience
enthusiasts love. It also features power windows, and when you want
open air driving, the removable Targa top conveniently stores
behind the seats. This is an interior that feels special before you
even turn the key.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It is home to Ferrari's 2.9-liter, high revving
DOHC V8 with Bosch fuel injection. It is mounted transversely
behind the passenger compartment- a layout that gives the 308 its
unmistakable mid engine balance and exotic character. The air
conditioning system was recently serviced, the water pump and belt
were replaced too. Just behind the engine is the nicely carpeted
rear cargo compartment, which also houses a CD changer. It comes
well equipped with the original jack in its leather bag, Ferrari
tool kit, owner's manuals, and car cover.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The front compartment is clean and properly laid
out, housing the radiator with dual electric cooling fans. Also
included is a fifth matching original Ferrari wheel wearing its
original Michelin tire, a great piece of originality.
UNDERSIDE: It rides on a tubular steel chassis with four wheel
independent suspension, using unequal length upper and lower
control arms, coil springs, hydraulic shocks, and anti-sway bars
both front and rear. This was a sophisticated setup for the era and
is a big part of the 308's balanced, responsive handling. Stopping
power comes from four wheel ventilated disc brakes. Steering is a
direct, unassisted rack-and-pinion system, giving the driver that
mechanical road feel these cars are known for. At the rear you can
see the transversely mounted drivetrain and 5-speed transaxle,
which incorporates a limited slip differential, with power
delivered to the rear wheels through CV-jointed axle shafts. The
clutch was just replaced and the flywheel was cut.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: Bottom line, the 308 GTSi is everything you want a
classic Ferrari to be- exotic, beautiful, engaging and instantly
recognizable. It's the car that became a television icon with
Magnum, P.I., and more than 40 years later, the design still turns
heads everywhere it goes. Vintage Ferraris like this certainly
aren't becoming more plentiful, or going down in value!
