The Ford Falcon was introduced for the 1960 model year as Ford's
compact offering, designed to provide practical transportation
while maintaining the comfort and styling expected from a full-size
automobile. The Falcon quickly became popular for its
affordability, efficiency, and wide range of body styles. For 1963,
Ford introduced the Falcon Sprint as a sportier
performance-oriented model, combining the compact Falcon platform
with the 260 and later 289 cubic inch V8 engines. The Sprint
offered upgraded styling and performance and helped establish the
Falcon as more than just an economical commuter. The 1963 1/2 model
year is particularly notable as Ford continued to develop the
Falcon's performance image while preparing for the introduction of
the new Mustang in 1964.
