This car was purchased in 1973 by a Mr. Golley from a fellow in Brooklyn, NY, we don't know anything about that first owner, but he very well may have taken the car street racing.
From the factory, this would have been a 327, 4 barrel, 230 HP model.
That wasn't good enough for the original owner. When Mr. Golley bought the car, he later discovered that the engine was a 1969 327 (from an Impala) equipped with a Comp Cam HO cam, 1965 camel hump fuelie heads and roller rockers, Winters HO aluminum 4 barrel manifold, close ratio T-10 aluminum case 4 speed manual transmission and a 4:10 geared rear diff.
That sounds like a car ready to get from 0-?, in a 1/4 mile, as fast as possible.
AND
It Does.
In my time driving the car, it is quick. Lights up the tires in 1st and chirps 2nd and 3rd without trying. If I pushed it, probably could have chirped 4th.
My guess is that this engine is pushing 325-350 HP.
In other notes that came with the car when the current owner purchased it in 2017, the car was fully restored by Eastern Coach Restoration in Sayville, NY in 1989. Everything was zero'd out at that point, the odometer set to 0.
The car was driven VERY little from then til now, only accumulating 5238 miles. When the current owner bought it, it had 4700 miles. He put 500 miles on it in less than 8 years. In the last 2 years the car was only started and driven around the block as the owner was in failing health and unfortunately, he passed away earlier this year. The car is being sold by his daughters.
The Golley family owned the car until 2016, on Long Island, when it was purchased by Island Motors and subsequently sold to the last owner here in CT. We can presume this is a 3 owner car.
The car presents very well. The black paint still shines and reflects deeply, only found a couple of small issues, all called out in the photos.
Turn the key, the engine fires right up and idles with the lope of a cammed small block. Runs and drives well, the 4 drum brakes actually do a good job of stopping this rather light car. The tires are Uniroyal Tiger Paws - 205/75/15 and are in very good condition.
The interior is in very good shape with a minor seam separation on the driver seat and some minor pitting on the chrome, the steering wheel showing a couple small cracks. The exterior chrome is in very good condition, also with some very minor pitting visible in a spot or two.
All the gauges work, except the speedo, which seems, based on all the paperwork I've been able to pour through, to have been an ongoing issue all the way back into the early 2000's.
The lights work, the horn works and the wipers work at any old time they want to. I'm guessing a bad ground somewhere, which is not uncommon in Corvettes. There is an aftermarket radio (AM/FM/Cassette - digital) and it works as it should.
This Corvette has both tops, the hard top looks brand new and the soft top not much different.
The current owner put over $25,000 into the car in the time he owned it, including a rebuild of the rear axle, transmission, all new brakes, suspension work, bearings, water pump, exhaust, steering work, sway bar links, spindles, king pins, and more .. we believe this was performed at the Corvette Center in Newington, CT.
This car was built to be driven and driven hard. Unfortunately over the last several decades only 5200 miles have been put on it.
This is not an NCRS or Bloomington Gold car by any stretch, so get in, get er sideways and hang on.
Drive it and enjoy it.
