THE RED BARON - 1930 FORD MODEL A FLATHEAD V8 COUPE Known as "The
Red Baron," this all-steel 1930 Ford Model A coupe is a
traditionally built hot rod featuring an authentic survivor-style
patina and original Ford components throughout. Its professionally
restored chassis is built on the original frame, which was
sandblasted and refinished, and retains the original rear axle.
Power comes from a strong-running 1940 Ford Flathead V8 equipped
with Edelbrock aluminum heads, Red's headers, a late-style crab
distributor conversion and a new coil. A polished vintage Edmunds
intake with Tardel risers supports dual vintage chrome Stromberg 97
carburetors, both rebuilt and supplied by a new fuel pump and fuel
lines. New head gaskets and bolts were also installed. The Flathead
is paired with a rebuilt 1939 Ford manual transmission, a 1932
clutch arm and a new clutch kit. Additional traditional components
include a 1932 Ford K-member and pedals, an original 1932 Ford
wishbone, an original 1933 Ford front axle dropped four inches and
drilled, an F1 truck steering-box conversion, a Model T rear spring
and a reverse-eye main leaf with a refurbished original leaf pack.
All shackles and bushings are new and retain their original-style
appearance. Hydraulic "juice" brakes feature a new USA-made 1939
master cylinder, new wheel cylinders and new rear drums. The
refurbished rear backing plates retain functional emergency-brake
hardware, while original Lincoln front drums are mounted over F2
truck backing plates. The electrical system has been converted to
12 volts with a PowerGEN alternator and all-new vintage-style
cloth-covered wiring. The coupe rides on original 40-spoke
bent-spoke Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels, which were sandblasted and
refinished in gloss black, then fitted with original 1932
four-cylinder Ford hubcaps. New Firestone 4.50-16 front and 7.00-16
rear tires and tubes complete its period-correct stance. Inside,
the original seat has been recovered and complemented by finished
kick panels. Carefully assembled with a focus on traditional Ford
engineering and period-correct hot-rodding details, The Red Baron
runs and drives excellent. Original frame, sand blasted and
