INTRODUCTION: While we don't have a time machine to go back and
order the ultimate 1969 Camaro, here one sits! Someone went to
extreme measures to create a Camaro with the most desirable
features from the Rally Sport Z-28 and deluxe interior to the Cross
Ram and JL8 4 wheel disc brakes. It is nut and bolt restored to
factory new including correct #s and codes throughout from the
motor, carbs, starter, alternator to the trans, 4.10 posi and
colors. Fit, finishes and functions are outstanding!
EXTERIOR: The exterior is absolutely killer and I'd say it's
probably better than new because I don't think the paint looked
this good when it left the factory! The body is laser straight with
no rust or damage, and everything fits beautifully. It's equipped
with the cowl induction hood and spoilers. According to the trim
tag, it was born Le Mans Blue upper and lower with no vinyl top.
The metallic is laid out evenly and the clear coat has been
polished like glass. The white racing stripes are buried under the
clear and smooth to the touch.
It's also equipped with the Rally Sport package, featuring the
iconic hideaway headlights, and even the headlight washers are
present. Every piece of exterior molding and trim has been
replaced, including the exterior trim package with wheel opening
moldings, rain gutters and quarter panel louvers. It also has the
correct FM antenna and Z/28 bumper guards. Even all the glass was
replaced. It fits properly and the windows roll up and down
smoothly. It's sitting proudly on 15-inch Rally wheels with all new
bright trim and reproduction Goodyear Wide Tread GT tires.
INTERIOR: I'm sitting in an interior that is literally like new
from the fresh carpet to the fresh headliner. It's the desirable
Deluxe interior, featuring molded door panels that were replaced,
including the handles and hardware. The Comfortweave Deluxe seats
have been completely reupholstered, along with new headrests and
seat backs. The dash area has been beautifully restored and
features an optional clock, 8,000-rpm tachometer and factory AM/FM
radio. The center console houses the factory style gauges along
with a Hurst 4-speed shifter.
The beautiful deluxe rosewood steering wheel complements the
matching rosewood dash trim. Even the details are fresh, including
reproduction seat belts, mirror, visors, vents and rear package
shelf. The interior lights are working as well.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood is the legendary DZ 302, topped
with the highly desirable Cross-Ram induction system rated at an
impressive 450 horsepower! The engine compartment has been
authentically restored with tremendous attention to factory detail.
Casting numbers, dates and stampings are correct, including the
numbers on the GM aluminum Cross-Ram intake and both 600 CFM Holley
carburetors. On top is a functional cowl induction system feeding
fresh air to the two thirsty carbs. The detailing goes even further
with the correct smog system, spark plug heat shields, reproduction
date-coded plug wires, #s correct alternator, proper finned
aluminum valve covers and deep groove pulleys designed to keep the
belts in place at high RPM. It's equipped with power steering and
power brakes, including a cadmium plated brake booster.
Reproduction hoses and clamps, correct shroud, radiator and fan,
new wiring and functional windshield washers complete the factory
presentation. Even the battery has a Delco topper with spring-clamp
cables. Every surface has been carefully finished, the painted
metal is smooth and glossy, the components are properly detailed,
and the overall presentation is assembly line fresh.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: This compartment is restored like new as well.
Under the trunk lid and throughout the jamb, the paint is smooth
and glossy. Inside is clean, solid metal finished in the correct
style spatter paint.
It's detailed right down to the decals, new weatherstrip and
reproduction trunk mat. They even went as far as restoring the jack
assembly.
It also has a matching Rally wheel with a reproduction Goodyear
tire that's never been used, completing the factory fresh
presentation.
UNDERSIDE: It has been nut and bolt restored to factory new
condition, with exceptional attention to authenticity. The entire
steering and suspension system was rebuilt and highly detailed,
right down to the correct assembly-line markings and spiral shocks.
One of the most significant features is the apparent JL8 four wheel
disc brake package- only 208 Camaros were factory equipped with
this option in 1969. The complete braking system has been restored,
including fresh lines, hoses and e-brake cables. While the car is
not claimed to be one of the original JL8 equipped Camaros, the
related components are present and the identifying numbers are
consistent with the package. It has the factory correct dual
exhaust system with the transverse muffler and polished tips. The
entire fuel system was replaced, including the tank, lines and
related components. Looking up at the engine, it's spotless and
finished in correct Chevy orange. Even the dated and numbered
starter is correct. The M20 Muncie 4-speed transmission has the
car's VIN stamping, and its linkage was completely rebuilt. A
rebuilt driveshaft connects to the correctly dated 12-bolt rear end
with 4.10 Positraction gears, including the proper QY-code stamping
for the JL8 package. The floors are absolutely pristine metal-
smooth enough that you could wipe them clean with a tissue and
they're beautifully finished in semi-gloss black.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: Bottom line, someone is going to get one outstanding
Camaro! If this exact car was certified and born this way it would
set a new record price for a Camaro. Just looking at it is an
absolute pleasure. But driving it brings it to a whole other level.
That high-revving 302 breathing through the Cross-Ram, a 4-speed in
your hand and 4.10 gears out back- this is what a '69 Z/28 is all
about!
