GR Auto Gallery is excited to present this 1955 Pontiac Star Chief
finished in Nautilus Blue and White Mist over a Black and White
vinyl interior. This beautifully preserved example offers a
fascinating ownership history, with just two owners from new and an
incredible 58,000 original miles. The car's combination of original
character, thoughtful restoration work, and distinctive mid-1950s
styling makes it a wonderful representation of Pontiac's early V8
era.
The Star Chief is powered by Pontiac's 287ci V8, paired with a
desirable 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. As Pontiac's
entry into the growing V8 market, the Star Chief helped establish
the brand as a serious competitor in the performance-minded
American automobile market. The V8 provides the smooth, effortless
power that makes these large 1950s Pontiacs such enjoyable
cruisers.
The ownership history is particularly noteworthy. The original
owner purchased the car new but sadly passed away in 1959. It then
remained in storage until 1989, when it was purchased from the
estate by a restorer. He carefully brought the car back to life,
completing the finish work, restoring the chrome as needed, and
replacing the convertible top while retaining the original
interior. The result is a car that maintains much of its authentic
character while receiving the attention necessary to preserve it
for decades to come.
The exterior presents beautifully in Nautilus Blue and White Mist,
accented by a White convertible top, bright chrome, classic
hubcaps, and Whitewall tires. Inside, the Black and White vinyl
interior maintains the period-correct appearance expected from a
premium Pontiac of the era.
The 1955 Star Chief represents an important moment in Pontiac
history, as the marque entered the V8 field with a new generation
of power and styling. Examples with documented history, original
interiors, and genuine low mileage are increasingly difficult to
find.
With two owners from new, 58,000 original miles, its original
interior, desirable Hydra-Matic transmission, and an interesting
preservation history, this Star Chief is a wonderful opportunity to
own a distinctive piece of 1950s American automotive history.
