1968 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Convertible

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Malibu Chevelle convertible with a title verified 75,122 actual miles. This bright example packs a period correct 327 and is backed by an era correct Muncie M20.

Exterior
The A-body design is already coveted and it doesn't hurt to have the Bright Yellow paint presented in two stage goodness, enhanced by a black Super Sport stripes that span the nose and ride the side like an elongated hockey stick. It's a nice complement to the black canvas top and a visual connection between the 14-inch Chevrolet SS wheels with black inserts. Up front, a bright package includes the headlight bezels and grated grille along with a mirror-like bumper with guards, and side trim that is mirrored directly by the stripes. A SS hood boasts two power bulges that terminate at a pair of cowl vents. In general, the paint and trim are in good shape. Imperfections include some scuffs including a red one on the right side, scratches, chips throughout, bubbles especially low on rockers and around wheel openings, scratch in side rear window, scuffed chrome and some surface rust, and some evidence of filler in the driver's door jamb and door.

Interior
Black vinyl door panels open up and become your gates to the interior where you'll find black vinyl front bucket seats and rear bench, all in good condition with some creases on the driver's seat and speakers on the rear bench cleverly wired through the ashtrays in somewhat weathered armrests. A three spoke steering wheel fronts the two square gauges framed in textured black plastic and a central, barrel type tachometer. The center stack includes the vent lever panel, an AM radio, and an audio balancer. Our consignor says an 8-track is included. In the center console, you'll find a Hurst shifter and brushed aluminum faceplate over black carpet. The trunk is barren and generally clean.

Drivetrain
Under the hood you'll find a 327ci V8 with a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor and a horsepower rating of 275. Behind it, an era-correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual transmission that routes power to the 10 bolt rear axle. Power steering is noted in this clean bay and our consignor reminds us this engine is still on pointsignition!

Undercarriage
A hint of oil film and a touch of surface rust on this otherwise clean underside where dual exhaust flows through Dynomax mufflers on their way to an oval tipped chrome exits. Drum brakes are noted on all four wheels and suspension consists of coil springs front and rear with a 4 link in back.

Drive-Ability
The V8 starts up with a satisfying exhaust note and we row this Malibu onto the test loop where the 60 series tires track straight and handle well. Four wheel drum brakes do their job and there's good power underfoot. Other than the clock, all functions on this Chevrolet work as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

A great summer color, a retractable soft top, and a fun stick between the seats! This Chevelle checks all the boxes for good times ahead. Though she was born with a six cylinder, the 327 V8 is right at home and now allows this topless yellow ride to gallop at a clip, with a soundtrack that can come from the dash, or the rear tips. Your option!
