For Sale: 1972 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1972 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

"When you slip behind the wheel of a sports car like Corvette, we think you have the right to accept three things: instrumentation, comfort and convenience. 1972 Corvettes provide all three. Get seated and look around. Immediately behind Corvette's steering wheel, recessed deeply in circular pods, you'll see Corvette's speedometer and tachometer. If you're getting the idea that Corvette's standard interior is well stocked, you're getting the right idea." From the 1972 sales brochure

For consignment, a 1972 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 27,545 actual miles. This has a matching numbers engine, rebuilt in 2002 when it was bored .040 over, new cams, pistons, lifters and timing chain along with a high performance fuel pump, according to our consignor.

Exterior
Named for the village at Road America, Elkhart Green Metallic covers the sweeping lines, coke bottle curves, and iconic grated fender vents of the Corvette side well. From the center of the nose piece back through the right fender, we have gray primer with check marks and divots throughout. The remaining paint is rough in areas, including deep crazing, dull areas, chips and scratches all around. Needless to say, this car could use some fresh paint. Rising fenders border the hood which leads to a raked windshield that forces air to flow over the top and onto the flat decklid that terminates with a subtle integrated wing. One of the best views of the car is the rear where the split bumper underlines the dual tail lights and hovers over square exhaust tips fitted to gaps of the rear valance and above it all, flying buttresses hug the rear window. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels on the car are wrapped in 245/60R15's with a mid 2024 date code.

Interior
As the outer door rises to meet the shoulder line of the car, it creates a car that leans back, and the features of the Saddle vinyl and plastic door panels follow those lines in slanted geometric patterns and both are in nice shape. Saddle leather bucket seats have tall backs and are flat by today's sportscar standards, and both seats show wear and on the driver's, missing material. The 3 spoke steering wheel fronts a column that leads to a simple dashboard with two important dials, speed and RPMs and the speedometer tops out at 160 mph. Less immediate but just as important information is conveyed via a 5 gauge pod located in the center stack. One of those is a clock which will only confirm that time flies when you're in a classic Corvette! An AM/FM/Cassette radio forms the connection to the center console which houses a Hurst the shifter in slightly weather woodgrain faceplate. Some of the plastic is cracked and the housing around the emergency brake is broken badly. Like the rest of the interior, the plush carpet shows some age and the package shelf behind the seats includes speakers and unharnessed wires.

Drivetrain
The engine bay presents with clean contrast, shiny chrome, and fresh looking hoses and wires. It's the numbers matching 350ci V8, rated at 200 horsepower and fueled by a 4-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a Tremec TKX 5-speed manual transmission, added in 2019 according to our consignor, and sending power to the rear axle with 3.08 gears. Headers, power brakes and power steering are on board.

Undercarriage
Other than prominent surface rust and some holes in the spare tire housing, the underside is relatively clean. The dual exhaust runs through stock style mufflers and exit through square tips on the rear valance. Four wheel power disc brakes are on board and suspension consists of Corvette's complex system of a frame mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf springs.

Drive-Ability
Despite the cosmetic patina, the 350 comes to life without hesitation and provides decent power on the test loop while the newer tires allow for some lateral G's, or at least very good grip in turns! And bonus...all functional items operate as they should on this classic Corvette! While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

With a little TLC, this numbers matching '72 will be ready for the show circuit, or just look great sitting quietly in your garage!
