This 1958 Chevy 3100 Apache is a really cool truck that was
restored and converted to 4WD. The lat owner built and restored
this truck to be a fun summer daily driver over a 4 year period but
unfortunately became ill and was never really able to do that. It
was a frame-off restoration but was done to be a nice driver that
he could drive to local car shows. He only put around 10 miles on
it when it was completed last year and we put the other miles on
it. The body is clean. The cab and hood are original and were
really nice to begin with. The front fenders are new and the bed is
completely new with a nice wooden floor. It was painted in the
factory color of Tartan Turquoise but we do not know if it was the
original color. The paint is nice but it is not high show quality.
All of the trim and chrome is new and excellent. The glass in the
truck is all original and has some delamination on the edges. The
underside is super clean and we found no rust issues with this
truck.
The interior is really nice and the inside of the cab was also
repainted. The original seat was reupholstered and it has a new
headliner and new rubber mat. Most of the interior chrome was
replaced with new. The headlights, taillights, brakelights, and
turn signals are all working. The gauges all work. The horn,
heater, and windshield wipers work. It has a nice aftermarket
stereo that is also working.
Mechanically this truck is excellent and it runs and drives
wonderful. The truck was built on a 1978 Chevy Short-Bed 4x4 frame
and chassis. They did an excellent job integrating this build and
the truck drives so much nicer than a regular 1958. The truck is
titled as a 1958. This conversion gives you the 4x4, power
steering, and power front disc brakes. It also gives the better
modern axles and an automatic transmission. The engine is the 235
Inline 6 cylinder this truck would have come with. According to the
numbers we found on the engine it is a 1958 Block. When the truck
was restored the engine was rebuilt, The engine compartment is
super clean and the engine is stock. It does have an aluminum
radiator. It has a Turbo 350 Automatic transmission that shifts
nice. It was installed with an adapter kit. It is mated to the
np203 transfer case and the 4WD works like it should. The rear axle
is a GM 12 Bolt with 3.42 gears. The front axle is a 10 Bolt with
3.42 gears. It has a new wiring harness. The in cab fuel tank was
relocated under the bed in the rear. It is sitting on a nice set of
wagon wheels with new 31 Inch All Terrain tires.
