The 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon is part of the TJ generation of
Wrangler that helped establish the model as one of the most capable
factory-built off-road vehicles available. The Rubicon name was
introduced for the Wrangler in 2003 and brought a number of serious
off-road upgrades, including the Rock-Trac transfer case, locking
Dana 44 axles, and lower gearing designed for challenging terrain.
For 2005, the Wrangler continued to offer the proven 4.0L PowerTech
inline-six engine, while the Rubicon's combination of rugged
body-on-frame construction, solid axles, manual transmission, and
specialized four-wheel-drive hardware made it particularly
appealing to enthusiasts. The TJ generation is also well known for
its classic round-headlight styling, removable doors, removable
tops, and extensive aftermarket support, making these Jeeps highly
customizable while retaining their unmistakable character.
