GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this remarkably
original-appearing 1979 Ford Bronco Ranger XLT. Finished in Pastel
Sand over a coordinating Sand cloth and vinyl interior, this
second-generation Bronco has exactly the look that makes these
short-lived 1978-1979 models so desirable today. Rather than being
heavily modified or transformed into a modern restomod, this Bronco
retains its classic factory character, original stance, steel
wheels, bright exterior trim, and removable hardtop. It stands tall
and proud just as a late-1970s Bronco should.
Under the hood is the factory-correct 351ci (5.8L) V8, with the
original emissions decal still present and confirming its
displacement. The engine is currently fitted with a Holley
carburetor and is paired with Ford's three-speed automatic
transmission. Power is sent through a proper four-wheel-drive
system, giving this Bronco the capability expected of Ford's
full-size 4x4. The factory data plate identifies it as a U150
Bronco with a 104-inch wheelbase, 6,100-pound GVWR, and axle code
16, indicating a 3.50:1 conventional rear axle. A dual exhaust
system gives the 351 an appropriately muscular V8 sound.
This Bronco was also equipped with factory air conditioning, a
desirable option that adds another level of comfort to an already
well-optioned Ranger XLT. The engine compartment and undercarriage
retain a largely original appearance, fitting well with the
preserved nature of the rest of the truck.
The Ranger XLT interior is one of the highlights of this example.
Its Sand vinyl seating with patterned cloth inserts is pure
late-'70s Ford and remains in impressive condition considering the
truck's age and mileage. The cabin is complemented by brown and
Sand tones, woodgrain dash and door-panel accents, full carpeting,
and the original-style steering wheel and instrumentation. The
driver's side carpet does show some age and wear, but overall the
interior has been remarkably well preserved and adds tremendously
to the Bronco's originality and character.
The five-digit odometer has rolled over and currently represents
approximately 122,000 miles. The Bronco came from Washington State
and has remained with its current owner for the past five years.
Its exterior presents much like the interior: honest, largely
original in appearance, and full of the kind of character that is
difficult to recreate once a truck has been completely restored or
modified.
With its Pastel Sand finish, Ranger XLT trim, fantastic period
interior, 351 V8, Holley carburetor, automatic transmission,
factory air conditioning, four-wheel drive, and wonderfully stock
stance, this 1979 Bronco simply looks right. These
second-generation Broncos were produced for only two model years,
and finding one that still carries this much of its late-1970s Ford
personality is increasingly difficult. This thing is just plain
cool-a wonderfully preserved, unmistakably old-school Ford 4x4
that's ready to be enjoyed.
