When Ford debuted the Mustang in 1964, it was an instant hit with the public. Between the 1967 and 1968 model years, Ford noticed that California was selling more Mustangs than any other state in the United States. To reward their California customers for all of the great sales, Ford wanted to give them their very own special edition Mustang which became the GT/CS California Special and was based on the 1967 Shelby GT500 Mustang prototype.
