For Sale: 1970 Plymouth GTX in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1970 Plymouth GTX Hardtop

The GTX remained basically the same in 1969 and 1970. There was little need to change the car from a performance perspective. It was the car to beat. Changes were relegated to grill and rear end updates." Thxautoappraisalnetwork.com

For consignment, a 1970 Plymouth GTX hardtop showing 92,296 miles, but the true miles are unknown due to a VA title exemption. This one has a period correct 440 under the hood and a long list of factory options on the fender tag.

Exterior
Now code ER6, Scorch Red, adorns this GTX, now in two stage application, accented by broad glossy black stripes that run the center of the hood, crossing over the gap and including the fresh air grabber scoop and power bulge, itself branded with 440+6 decals. Black will reappear on side with two stripes in tandem running from the sail panel vent to the front fender. There are few cars with a more serious face, the dual headlights wide and glaring on either side of the grille over a straight chrome bumper. Then of course, there's the muscular rear with a pair of simple tail lights with a blacked out latch panel behind and big oval exhaust tips below. 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels are just right, rocking letters out tires, and enjoying the wheel opening trim. Imperfections are few and include some paint runs, scuffs, inclusions, cracked paint in several spots including door jambs, chips, some bubbling under the black vinyl top and various other places, scratched glass, and peeling paint inside the trunk.

Interior
Attractive black inner doors include a woodgrain panel with matching black grains and a black vinyl door pull with silver hardware and they're just about picture perfect. Tall back black vinyl sport bucket seats reside in the front with padded inserts. They're in great shape and are mirrored in condition and color by the back bench. Back in front, a 3 spoke fronts a woodgrain dash with offset gauges including the 150 mph speedometer. The AM radio is in the dash while wood applique continues throughout the dash and onto the center console where the curved shifter awaits. Black loop carpet below with GTX branded mats and the black headliner above are both in great shape. A rust free trunk includes a vinyl plaid mat and spare tire.

Drivetrain
Show ready is the period correct 440ci under the hood with gleaming red paint surrounding it. It has a added 6-barrel induction for fuel delivery and an A727 3-speed automatic transmission from 1971 behind it. Power is routed to the period correct Dana 60 Mopar axle with 4.10 gears and SureGrip. Power brakes and power steering are present and accounted for!

Undercarriage
Even more gleaming red paint is the backdrop for the clean underside. Here we have dual exhaust running through stock style mufflers and terminating at chrome tips in back. Power disc brakes and torsion bar suspension is up front while power drums and leaf springs are in back.

Drive-Ability
A healthy exhaust note is expelled on startup and accompanies us on this short journey around the test loop. With 26 year old tires in mind, we feather our right foot just enough to witness good power, straight tracking, and stopping on demand. We note the horn is not working and the reverse lights stay on in all gears as well as a fresh tank of fuel needed to get things running a bit better. Beyond that, all functions work and it's time to put this muscle under the lights. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

B-body nation is taking note! This era of Mopars set the stage for the 700+ horsepower we're seeing now, but there will never be any muscle car as classic as one straight from the era that started it all. This is a fantastic example in very good condition and ready to cruise night tonight!
