There’s something unmistakable about a 1958 Chevrolet Apache. The bold dual-headlight front end, unmistakable grille, Stepside bed, and desirable Big Window cab make these trucks standouts of Chevrolet’s legendary Task Force era.
This Apache takes that classic styling and combines it with a thoughtfully developed street-truck build that has been enjoyed, improved, and documented over the years.
Finished in deep black, the truck has a strong, purposeful appearance. Bright chrome and polished wheels contrast beautifully against the dark bodywork, while the stance gives it the right combination of vintage pickup character and custom street-machine attitude.
383 Stroker V8
Under the hood is a 383 cubic-inch stroker V8 built for substantial street performance while remaining suitable for pump gas. The engine is equipped with a Quick Fuel Technology carburetor and is backed by an automatic transmission.
The combination gives this Apache considerably more performance than Chevrolet ever envisioned in 1958 while retaining the straightforward, mechanical character that makes a classic hot rod enjoyable to own and drive.
Extensive Documentation
One of the strongest features of this truck is the history that accompanies it.
The Apache comes with an unusually extensive collection of receipts, invoices, handwritten build records, parts information, and notes accumulated during its development. The records document work involving the engine and drivetrain, body and paint, steering and brakes, wiring, cooling system, exhaust, glass, interior components, and numerous additional improvements.
Individual repair invoices are also included. One surviving Bill’s Auto Shop invoice, for example, documents transmission removal and installation along with seal-related repairs and additional mechanical work.
The documentation indicates more than $30,000 in parts and improvements over the course of the build, before attempting to place a value on the labor and time invested.
This isn’t a recently assembled truck with an unknown past. There is a substantial paper trail showing how the Apache was developed and maintained.
Built to Be Enjoyed
The Apache was not created simply to sit under a cover. It has been driven, shown, and enjoyed.
Included with the truck are numerous awards and trophies accumulated at automotive events over the years—a nice piece of history that speaks to the pride previous ownership took in the truck.
The odometer currently displays approximately 15,584 miles. As with most modified vehicles of this age, actual total chassis mileage should not be inferred solely from the odometer reading.
