Gateway Classic Cars of Dallas is proud to present this
exceptional, ultra-low-mileage 1988 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350.
Showing a remarkable 12,254 original, documented miles, this
third-generation F-body stands as a museum-grade time capsule
representing an increasingly rare opportunity for collectors to
acquire an unmolested 1980s performance icon. Finished in striking
Flame Red paint (81U/81Q / paint code U8774) accented by grey lower
body striping and bold "Formula 350" door graphics, this Firebird
retains its signature factory look complete with pop-up headlights,
rear aero spoiler (D81), functional offset cowl-induction hood, and
original 16-inch aluminum wheels wrapped in performance rubber
(QDZ).
Under the hood sits the top-tier 5.7-liter (350 cu. in.) Tuned Port
Injection (TPI) L98 V8 engine (B2L package), delivering 225
horsepower and 330 lb-ft of low-end torque while benefitting from a
factory engine oil cooler (KC4). Power is routed through GM's THM
700R4/4L60 four-speed automatic transmission (MD8/MX0)-the
mandatory factory setup for the 350 TPI in 1988-and sent to a 3.27
rear differential axle ratio (GW6) with G80 limited-slip
Positraction. What elevates this Formula's engineering and handling
capabilities is the factory WS6 Special Performance Suspension
package, endowing the chassis with high-rate sway bars, precise
handling dynamics, and four-wheel power disc brakes (J65) for
confident stopping power.
What makes this particular Formula 350 (W66) exceptionally valuable
in today's growing classic car market comes down to three major
collector pillars: mileage, model rarity, and unmolested
originality. While the Trans Am grabbed headlines with heavy lower
body cladding, true driving enthusiasts opted for the sleeker,
lighter Formula 350 to get maximum V8 performance without the added
weight. Because so many of these high-torque 3rd-gen muscle cars
were heavily modified, street-raced, or driven into high mileage,
finding an uncracked, factory-original specimen with just 12,254
miles is virtually unheard of. Preserved right down to its engine
bay tags and door-jamb VIN decals, this bird represents a rising
blue-chip 80s collector vehicle.
Inside, the cabin remains in exceptional preserved condition
featuring Medium Dark Grey deluxe cloth bucket seats (82B/82I /
AR9) that display virtually no wear, complementing a clean dash,
factory tilt steering wheel (N33), and original center console.
Convenience and luxury options abound, including factory manual air
conditioning (C60), AM/FM cassette stereo with graphic equalizer
(UX1), electric rear window defogger (C49), power windows (A31),
power door locks (AU3), power rear hatch release (A90), power
steering, and power brakes.
