For Sale: 1968 Chevrolet Camaro in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1968 Chevrolet Camaro Hardtop

In 1966 Mustangs were flying out of Ford showrooms, and Chevrolet needed an answer. After many secret meetings, and covert internal press events, engineers unveiled the official name for what had been known up to this point as XP-836. Camaro was the chosen namesake, and immediately the question became "but what does it mean?". This question has no official linguistic answer, but as Chevrolet marketing people would answer "It's an animal that eats Mustangs!"

For consignment, a 1968 Chevrolet Camaro hardtop showing 21,056 miles, but the true miles are unknown. Not only are detailed receipts of recent work by a well known Bucks County Chevrolet shop included, but the original drivetrain and three Rally wheels come with the car.

Exterior
Under our lights, the two stage Tripoli Turquoise looks fantastic, covering this epic pony car, which has a high stance above its 14 and 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels. Staggered size tires put more meat in the back and enhance the rear view of the car which also includes a color keyed gas door and two part tail lights that include the clear reverse light over a laser straight chrome bumper. Single headlights reside in a polished bezel that surrounds the closely stacked black grille with no emblem present for a clean look. Above it, the subtle cowl hood is the perfect performance complement to the spoiler at the other end. Imperfections include a wide gap on at right door, chips on the rear deck panel, minor inclusions, some blistering on both doors, filler on rear valance, and open bolt holes on front bumper.

Interior
Clean presentation is found on the original style black door panels which wear a Camaro badge on the center insert. The bucket seats in black vinyl are in great shape and mirrored in condition by the rear bench. The view up front is a combination of the factory steering wheel and dashboard configuration with an added AM/FM/Cassette radio and quartet of AutoMeter gauges in the center stack, the top of which is framed in woodgrain. That woodgrain also dresses the center console where the fantastic horseshoe shifter resides and the teal gear reveals are stacked in the middle. Both the black looped carpet and black headliner show in great shape and the shoulder belts are in place. While looking in this direction, we note some slight cracking of the rubber door seals.

Drivetrain
Remember when engines were easy to access and service? Such is the case in this bay where we find a 350ci stroker based V8 with a consignor stated 536 horsepower. Wow! How did it get there? With the help of the stroke, aluminum heads, and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor. It's backed by a manual valve body actuated TH350 3-speed automatic with a 4000rpm stall converter, sending power to the 12 bolt rear axle with a consignor stated 4.11 gearing and Positraction.

Undercarriage
A clean underside includes a chrome differential cover and dual exhaust that come from polished headers, into stainless pipes, then FlowMaster mufflers that emit about 2 inches of tailpipe, terminating under the car. We have disc brakes up front and drum in back while suspension is configured as coil springs and leaf springs, front and back respectively. Dry conditions and minimal, typical surface rust is noted.

Drive-Ability
Another day, another ride in a classic Camaro! It's tough, but someone has to do it. Our short loop proves to be a pleasant one, the car sounding great and possessing some obvious power on hand. We're on 27 year old tires so there will be no flogging today, but just know it's possible. We note the speedometer and odometer are not working but all other functions available to occupant work as they should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

One car, two drivetrains, and a great exterior color and stance makes this one worthy of being on your radar. It's not hyperbole to say that more than 90% of 1968 Camaros that come through our doors are scooped up in short order, so if this ride impresses you, be sure to put some green on your turquoise dream!
