For Sale: 1964 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1964 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible

"Top down for taking in the sun or top up for taking in the weather, the '64 Sting Rayconvertible promises great times and sparkling performance. With things like Ball-Race steering and a power team from a quartet of restless V8's and versatile transmissions, a Corvette delivers what it promises. Both the sports coupe and convertible feature better than ever ride qualities, higher horsepower ratings for the two top engines, refined styling and interior comfort." Corvettemuseum..org

For consignment, a 1964 Chevrolet Corvette convertible with a title verified 84,161 actual miles. This one retains its numbers matching 327ci V8 and features numerous upgrades including rebuilt front suspension, factory power assist steering, and dual reservoir master cylinder.

Exterior
One of seven colors available in 1964, Riverside Red, here in two stage application, was named for the California Raceway where professionals and amateurs cut their teeth beginning in the late 50's. The red smooths the lines of the cars including the crease in each fender and the horizontal twin fender vents that are holdovers from the '63 and in their final year. Side pipes and their vented covers add another iconic feature making it clear that this is not your grandfather's Chevrolet. The hood vents are gone from 1963, but the torpedo shaped detail puts the "sting" in Sting Ray, coming to a point just past the hood gap and between the doors of hidden headlights. 15-inch knock off wheels are the perfect fit here wrapped in even 205/75R15s all around. The color keyed accessory hard top comes with the car along with its white canvas top. Imperfections overall include some minor chips, bubble in the chrome, touched and untouched scratches and chips throughout, general inclusions, crazing the hardtop's window, rough surface on the boot cover, paint run near a marker, crack at a wheel opening lip,

Interior
The classic color spec continues with a black interior, first introduced to riders via the door panels that wear it well in patterned vinyl, robust door hardware, and dual round reflectors with gunsight trim, and both doors present nicely. Low back black bucket seats await a pair of derrieres while the driver is afforded the active side of the cabin with big three spoke steering wheel and a cove ahead full of period gauges in a hide textured plastic faceplate. The passenger cove gets a fitted glovebox and the arching dashboard creates a center stack with a large clock, vent knobs, and a sideways mounted AM/FM radio. Taking center stage is the chrome balled Hurst shifter is a nickel faceplate and textured black console, all looking nice over black carpet and red Corvette mats and these materials continue in the rear cargo area and soft top stowaway.

Drivetrain
Right out of 1964 comes the numbers matching 327ci V8, pushing out 250 horsepower and topped by a Rochester 4-barrel carburetor. It's backed by a period correct Muncie M20 4-speed manual that routes power to the rear axle and through 3.36 gears with Positraction. Power brakes, power steering, a Pertonix electronic points eliminator, and a four core aluminum radiator are on board for a safer and more enjoyable experience. The bay presents cleanly with the standard chrome components for the '64.

Undercarriage
We're greeted with clean conditions underneath where the circle gaps in the crossmember are empty thanks to the dual exhaust going sideways soon after leaving the factory manifolds. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in back. The upper and lower A-arms were sandblasted and fitted with new bushings along with new tie rod ends, ball joints and shocks. Coil spring suspension is up front with half shafts, lateral struts, controls arms and transverse leaf spring on the independent rear.

Drive-Ability
We were told about the "tight suspension with no squeaks or rattles" and we're here to tell you, that's all true! This well sorted Vette and its original engine still run very well and side pipes provide that visceral experience only sidepipes can deliver. All functions on this example work as they should and we swiftly return it to the mall to find a place on the showroom floor. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

100% of the 1964 Corvettes that have come through our Hallowed Halls have sold and gone off to a new owner, (unless they are still on the floor). These are some of the most sought after classics in the market and this is a fantastic example to get in on the fun. What a design! Please take a bow, Mr. Mitchell, Mr. Shinoda, and Mr. Brock.
