1955 Ford Fairlane Skyliner (Glass Top) Crown Victoria:
VIN: U5RF113201
Rare and Special Vehicle: The Ford Skyliner offered during the years 1954, 1955, & 1956 was a special top of the line limited production model, recognized by the factory installed large green-tinted fixed Plexiglas insert replacing the forward portion of the steel roof. Initially it was available in the 1954 two door hardtop body under the Crestline series and was subsequently carried forward to 1955 & 1956 as an offering under the new Fairlane Crown Victoria model. For obvious reasons, Skyliner’s of this period were commonly referred to as Glass Tops. For 1955 this body style was designated in the data plate as Model 64B, with a very low production run of only 1,999 units, or about 1 glass top rolled off the assembly line for every 17 steel topped Crown Victoria counterparts. Ford made 15,746 glass tops during the 3 year production run with the vast majority or 13,144 made during the first year of production with significant reductions occurring in the final 2 years it was manufactured.
This Skyliner has over 20 years of current ownership and was purchased from a fellow car enthusiast located near Great Falls, MT who was thinning his vintage vehicle collection due to illness. After purchase the car was driven to Billings, MT (some 225 miles) without any issues and was very lightly used and enjoyed over the next 2 decades for various vintage car related events and special occasions. When not in use, it is always in dry indoor storage with its heavy duty custom car cover in place.
The car was restored prior to purchase and still presents well and includes the eye catching red & white paint combination that is carried into the matching two tone interior plus has the all the goodies that represent a classic mid 50’s cruiser.
Features include:
Potential Buyer Opportunity: This car presents well and is a turnkey example that can be enjoyed right now versus investing the substantial time and financial resources that would be necessary to bring a ‘Skyliner restoration project’ to this vehicle’s condition.
