For Sale: 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle in Newfield, New Jersey

Vehicle Description

A genuine big-block Chevelle with its original drivetrain, factory documentation, and largely untouched body structure is exactly the kind of car serious collectors look for, and this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport checks those boxes in a major way. Factory equipped with the Z15 SS 454 Group and retaining its numbers-matching LS5 454, M22 heavy-duty four-speed transmission, and 12-bolt rear axle, this Chevelle also includes its original build sheet and an NCRS Shipping Data Report, giving it the documentation to support its pedigree.

Built in Baltimore, Maryland and delivered new to H B Chevrolet in Flushing, New York, the car was originally finished in Antique Green Poly, Code 49, with a Sandalwood interior, Code 715. It retains its original sheet metal, original floors, and original interior, making its preservation especially noteworthy. The exterior has received one repaint in modern base-clear finish, while the underside has been painted black. Importantly, the car has never been frame-off restored and shows no patchwork underneath, preserving much of its original structure and character.

Under the hood is the factory numbers-matching LS5 454 big-block, one of the most desirable engines offered in the Chevelle lineup. The engine was recently removed, resealed, and repainted, helping freshen its mechanical presentation while retaining the original powerplant. Backing it is the numbers-matching M22 heavy-duty four-speed manual transmission, giving the car the kind of direct, mechanical driving experience that defines a true muscle-era Super Sport.

Out back is the correct-stamped GY2 12-bolt rear axle with a 3.31 ratio and G80 Positraction. The car is also equipped with the desirable F41 Special Suspension Package, making this one of the more serious factory performance configurations available in 1971.

Additional factory equipment includes N40 power steering, J50 power brakes with front discs, U14 gauge package, U80 auxiliary rear speaker, and the A51/D55 Strato bucket seat and console combination. The rear brakes have also been upgraded to disc, improving stopping performance while maintaining the original front power-disc setup.

This Chevelle was also built with factory air conditioning. The compressor and condenser are currently removed, although the engine brackets are included with the car. That leaves the next owner the option of returning the system to operation while preserving the fact that this was originally an air-conditioned SS 454.

The original wheels were recently powder coated and fitted with four brand-new tires, giving the car a fresh, correct-looking stance. The original interior remains in place and presents in factory Sandalwood, a particularly attractive contrast against the Antique Green exterior. The combination of factory colors, original cabin materials, and documented SS equipment gives the car a very authentic feel.

The original build sheet is a major highlight and provides valuable confirmation of the car's factory configuration. The included NCRS Shipping Data Report further documents its original selling dealer and delivery history. Together with the matching engine, transmission, rear axle, original floors, and original sheet metal, the paperwork adds tremendous credibility to an already highly desirable Chevelle.

With its numbers-matching LS5 454, numbers-matching M22 four-speed, correct 12-bolt Positraction rear, factory SS 454 package, original build sheet, NCRS documentation, original interior, and original sheet metal, this 1971 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport offers the kind of pedigree that is becoming increasingly difficult to find. As the final year for the LS5 454 in the Chevelle lineup, it also represents an important closing chapter in Chevrolet's big-block muscle car era and is ready to be shown, driven, and appreciated by its next owner.
