This 1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible is an unmistakable
example of one of Lincoln's most iconic designs, combining massive
proportions, clean styling, and the famous rear-hinged "suicide"
doors that have made these cars enduring American classics.
Finished in black with extensive chrome and brightwork, this
Continental has a commanding presence from every angle. Wide
whitewall tires with factory-style wheel covers complete the
period-correct appearance.
Power comes from Lincoln's big-block V8 paired with an automatic
transmission, delivering the smooth, effortless cruising character
these luxury cars were built around. Power steering and power
brakes make this full-size Lincoln comfortable to drive, while its
long wheelbase and substantial construction provide the relaxed
road manners expected from a flagship 1960s luxury automobile.
Inside, the black interior presents nicely and retains the
distinctive styling that makes the Continental's cabin nearly as
impressive as its exterior. Front and rear bench seating provides
plenty of room, while the sweeping dashboard, horizontal
speedometer, chrome accents, and thin-rim steering wheel preserve
the car's unmistakable mid-century Lincoln character. The
passenger-side front power window is currently inoperative.
One of the defining features of the Continental Convertible is its
elaborate power-operated convertible top system. The top sequence
on this example will operate and raise the top; however, once the
top is raised, the rear deck/body panel does not complete the
closing sequence. A solenoid is suspected to be the source of the
issue, but further diagnosis will be required. The convertible top
system is therefore not fully functional, and the vehicle is being
sold as-is with respect to this condition.
The 1966 Continental represents the final year of the four-door
convertible body style, making it an especially recognizable and
desirable member of the Continental lineup. With its black-on-black
presentation, wide whites, suicide doors, and unmistakable
proportions, this example offers tremendous presence and an
opportunity to enjoy a true 1960s American luxury icon while
addressing the remaining convertible-top and window items as
desired.
