Seven Hills Motorcars is very proud to offer this absolutely
stunning, very rare, and completely frame-off restored 1966
Corvette Sting Ray with the high performance L72 427ci big block
engine, F41 Special Front and Rear Suspension, J56 Special Heavy
Duty Brakes, Knock-Off wheels, 4-Speed manual transmission, side
pipes, power steering, power brakes, power windows, teak steering
wheel, and goldline tires. The original Protect-O-Plate (P.O.P.) is
included with the car, pictured in this ad, and verifies the car as
an original L72 427ci big block. The VIN, engine suffix code,
engine assembly date, transmission assembly date, rear end code,
rear end date, paint, and interior codes on the Protect-O-Plate all
match the stampings on the car. The car was sold new at Montgomery
Chevrolet in North Hollywood, California in May of 1966. This is
verified by original warranty book that also shows the original
owner's name.
This car came with almost every option available and is one of the
most highly optioned mid-year Corvettes on the market. It is
exceptionally rare, only 382 Corvettes were equipped with the J56
brakes for 1966, which is in addition to all of the other options.
The car is finished in the gorgeous and highly desirable color
combination of Rally Red (974) over Red Vinyl (407). Red/Red is an
iconic on this body style Corvette and for many years has been
considered to be the most sought-after color. This is the correct
color combination according to the codes on the trim tag pictured
in this ad and the Protect-O-Plate.
There are close-up photos in this ad of the VIN stamp on the engine
block, engine assembly date, engine block casting date, VIN tag,
trim tag, VIN stamp on the transmission main case, transmission
assembly date, transmission main case casting number, intake
casting number for any potential buyer or professional to
analyze.
According to previous owner this car was treated to a complete "nut
and bolt" restoration. It was an extremely high quality restoration
and very correct with proper chalk markings in the underside,
grease pencil torque marking, hose clamps, hoses, hardware,
stickers, tags, etc. It has the correct unique two-pin front
calipers and rear proportioning valve specific to the J56 brakes.
This 1966 has been used sparingly since the restoration and the
odometer shows just 1,483 miles. The previous owner said that the
odometer was reset to zero when the car was restored.
This Corvette looks utterly stunning, runs terrifically, and is an
absolutely thrilling driver with the 427 cubic inch engine that is
ready to be enjoyed. The market on C2 Corvettes is hot right now
and on the rise, especially for premium and rare cars like this
one; one could easily buy this car now and sell it for more than
the purchase price in years to come. Please peruse all of the
photos, video, numbers, and other information below to get a true
sense of how exceptional this Corvette really is.
As a side note, this Sting Ray is not a dealer auction vehicle. Our
Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone
that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.
We invite and encourage you to examine the car in person or have
the car inspected. Please take the time to scrutinize each picture.
We photograph each vehicle to the greatest extent so you can feel
confident about your purchase. If you have a question about the
Corvette, just give us a call.
Exterior
The Rally Red (974) exterior is in beautiful condition. As one can
see in the photos the finish has dazzling gloss, deep shine, and
smooth finish. The knock-off wheels are in excellent condition with
a brilliant finish and no curb rash. The tires are BF Goodrich
Silvertown Goldlines with plenty of tread left and sized 7.75-15.
These tires look great on the car and really compliment the look.
The chrome is in excellent condition with a bright finish and no
cloudiness, scratches, or pitting. There are no major imperfections
that have been excluded from the photos. There are a few bumps in
the paint around the car and a few other spots, but nothing that is
noticeable from about five feet away. As one can see in the many
photos of the underside of the car it is exceptionally clean and
correct with proper markings and tags; this Corvette looks
virtually as nice underneath as is does on top. Is totally solid
and looks great with obviously no rust issues.
Window Date Codes
Please note that all of the glass on this Corvette, the windshield,
driver's windows, passenger window, and both vent windows are all
date coded and correct as they predate the car's body build date of
the May 9, 1966 (I09).
Interior
The Red Vinyl (407) interior in this Sting Ray is in absolutely
outstanding condition and looks virtually like new. The seats are
in excellent shape with no split seams, rips, or excessive wear.
The seats are not worn in the typical area on the bolster where the
driver gets in and out. The carpet is also in like new condition
with no tears, rips, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which
is often neglected. The gauge faces are crisp and clean and the
lenses are crystal clear. The door panels are in terrific shape;
there are no cracks in the typical spot where the driver's elbow
sits. The door pulls are solid and intact. The dash and console
look great with no cracks or sun fading. The radio works and gets
good reception. Most importantly the dash has never been cut or
modified for an aftermarket installation. Please note that both
seat belts work and retract properly. This is a common problem on
C3 Corvettes and an issue many buyers do not think to check. This
Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no
aroma of cigarettes at all.
The spare tire is still with the car as is the jack, jack handle,
and even the hammer for the knock off wheels, which are all stored
correctly in the storage compartment behind the driver's seat.
Mechanical
This Corvette seems to be in great mechanical condition. This car
is pure excitement out on the road. Please view the video to hear
one of the best exhaust notes in the classic car industry, a big
block Corvette engine with sidepipes. The 427ci L72 starts right
away every time, runs well, and idles well. The car drives
terrifically on the road and highway. In the video one can observe
the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, braking to
stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that there
are no strange noises or vibrations and the car performs quite well
overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car.
The clutch feels good, the transmission is very tight, and does not
pop out of gear. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one
side or the other. The engine runs cool and does not overheat. The
gauge shows the engine makes great oil pressure. This Corvette has
plenty of power and is exceptionally fast with the L72 427ci
engine. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean,
detailed, and correct as one can see in the photos.
Every function we tried on the car works properly. The horn works
as do all the exterior lights, interior lights, dash lights,
indicators, and wipers. All of the gauges work and even the clock
runs. The blower for the heater works on all speed and the
defroster works so the air comes out of the proper vents. Even
detailed items like the glove box light work. The headlights go up
and down properly, which is a very common problem on second
generation Corvette. T...for more information please contact the
