1987 Chevrolet C30 Custom Deluxe Dually Long Bed Pickup
"The Chevrolet C30 was a variant of the 3rd Gen C/K that was
introduced for the 1973 model year. The C30, which was a 1 ton,
rear wheel drive pickup truck, was offered with a wide range of
engine options. These engines included inline six, V6, and V8 units
whose power ranged from 105hp to 230hp, with drive sent to the rear
wheels through manual or automatic transmissions. Starting in 1987,
Chevrolet changed the name of the C30 to the R30, in order to avoid
any confusion with the forthcoming Fourth Generation Chevrolet C/K.
Production of the 3rd Gen C30 lasted until 1991."

For consignment, a 1987 C30 Custom Deluxe dually long bed pickup
with a title verified 41,972 actual miles. This one retired from
farm work early and then was restored by a previous owner.
Exterior
A red pickup truck with polished wheels, cab lights, and dual
exhaust tips out back? Count us in! Who doesn't have a red pickup
on their wish list? Anyway, this is officially two stage Bright Red
which looks fresh. Dings in the bed, (and other imperfections in
the paint, see below), tell a different story but overall it's a
great looking truck with LT rated tires that have a mid 2020 date
code all around. Last of the square body design means a handsome,
vertical grille with lots of right angles and a wrap around chrome
bumper. In back, a steel plate tops the bumper for traction, and a
pair of chrome tips emerge to spice things up. Imperfections
include some chips, inclusions, a ding in the rocker panel and cab,
some orange peel, and some scratches. Overall, paint, body, and
metalwork are very nice.
Interior
Black plastic door cards fill the red painted inner doors and are
in great shape while the black vinyl bench inside is nearly
perfect. Refreshingly simple, the dash from the basic steering
wheel forward represents a different era in interior design and
utility. Black plastic is home to gauges which are delineated by
painted silver edges, the black faces interrupted only by the
orange needles. No radio here but you do get a vent lever panel and
a storage cubby. Down below, a rubberized floor covering surrounds
the shifter rising from the transmission tunnel, all in great shape
and clean. Red paint adorns the ceiling and a solid rear window
gives you a view of the bed.
Drivetrain
Also fantastically clean is the engine bay where we find the 350ci
V8, with a 4-barrel carburetor and a horsepower rating of 160. It's
mated to a 4-speed manual which includes three speeds and a creeper
gear. Power is routed to the Dana 70 in back with 4.10 gears. Power
brakes and power steering are on board.
Undercarriage
Clean conditions underneath and dual exhaust that run through
glasspack style mufflers on their way to the chrome tipped exit.
Power brakes are divided as disc up front and drum in the rear and
suspension is the standard coil spring/leaf spring front/rear
configuration.
Drive-Ability
Simple, clean, and comfortable, the 350 puts out good power and
bellows nicely under throttle. Simplicity normally breeds
functionality and that's the case here where everything works as it
should. Our consignor notes that this former two gas tank truck now
has just one, on the driver's side. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
This former farmer has gone fancy on us! With some sharp paint and
spotless interior, we're hesitating to get back into the fields,
but it's certainly capable if that's the direction you want to take
it. But this bright red unit seems more at home on a show field
than a plow field!
