Before the F-100 became an American institution, there was the F-1.
Introduced as part of Ford's first all-new postwar truck line, the
1948 through 1952 "Bonus Built" F-Series established the foundation
for generations of Ford pickups. This red 1950 F-1 comes from that
landmark first generation, and surviving examples with traditional
Flathead power are increasingly sought after by collectors and hot
rodders.
Under the hood is Ford's legendary 239-cubic-inch Flathead V8,
backed by a three-speed manual transmission and a floor shifter. It
is an honest mechanical combination with the unmistakable sound,
low-end pull, and old-school character that made the Flathead a
cornerstone of early American performance.
The driver-quality red finish suits the truck's working-class
roots, while the matching red bench-seat cabin keeps the
presentation simple and period-minded. Out back, a wood bed adds
warmth and craftsmanship to the curving steel bodywork. Up front,
the stout push bumper gives this F-1 an extra dose of vintage
utility and attitude.
Thoughtful upgrades include a 12-volt electrical conversion,
alternator conversion, aluminum radiator, and electric cooling fan.
Manual steering and manual brakes preserve the direct, hands-on
driving experience expected from a genuine mid-century pickup.
This is not a modern truck wearing vintage sheetmetal. It is a
first-generation Ford F-Series with Flathead V8 power, three
pedals, a wood bed, and the kind of patina-friendly driver quality
that invites its next owner to get behind the wheel and enjoy
it.
