2006 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptor Sedan
"The best cop car ever turned 40. The Ford Crown Victoria,
originally introduced in 1983, was recently recognized as the "Best
Police Cruiser of All Time". The vehicle's performance,
reliability, and cost were factors that made the vehicle the leader
of the pack. For decades, the low cost Crown Victoria provided
police departments with value that exceeds that of modern cruisers.
But industry trends forced the Crown Victoria, like other
affordable cars, into extinction." Forbes Magazine, Sept. 2023
For consignment, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria P71 Police Interceptor
with a title verified 115,489 actual miles. Owned by our consignor
since 2014 and garage kept, this law enforcement veteran received a
repaint in 2019.
Exterior
This car's attempt at stealthiness falls short because the two
stage Raven Black paint and police style 17-inch wheels and full
monochromatic treatment stick out like a menacing thumb. Even the
obvious spotlight is black and so is the entire honeycomb grille
and side mirrors. The only things that aren't black are the window
reveals and an ornamental aluminum strip under the tail light
panel. Tinted windows complete the look and Police Interceptor
badging brings it home. This glossy sleeper is wide awake, and
imperfections include some inclusions in the paint throughout,
orange peel, dings, a few scratches, dull spots, and some rock
spray on the lower panel.
Interior
Inside you have standard charcoal plastic door panels and all four
are in good shape. That leads to charcoal gray cloth bucket seats
with center console mount left behind by the department, and a
charcoal vinyl bench in back, and they all present cleanly. All
standard fleet up front beginning with the basic steering wheel,
column shifter, and an instrument cluster that includes a
tachometer. An updated AM/FM/CD radio in central along with the A/C
panel and an added CB radio. Low pile black carpet dresses the
floor and there's an extra dome light on the ceiling mounted on the
charcoal headliner while the trunk is finished with cloth lined
plastic panels and is clean.
Drivetrain
On to the mechanics where under the hood you'll find a 4.6 liter
SOHC V8 rated at 250 horsespower. It's backed by a 4R70W 4-speed
automatic transmission sending power the Ford 8.8" in back with
3.27 gears. The engine bay presents in driver quality
condition.
Undercarriage
Surface rust and oil film are present as you would expect but the
underside is otherwise clean and structurally sound. Here we have
dual exhaust traveling through original equipment exhaust,
including mufflers, terminating not in the dressy chrome tips of
the civilian Marauder, but through plain steel pipes. Power disc
brakes are at all four wheels and suspension includes coil springs
at both ends with a 4 link in back.
Drive-Ability
The trusty 4.6 starts right up and the newer 55 series tires roll
forward onto the test loop where the car provides a smooth,
straight ride with decent power underfoot. While we're tempted to
try a reverse J-turn at speed to chase the bad guys, we're here to
test normal functionality and as such, find that everything on
board works as it should. Good old Crown Vic! While Classic Auto
Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of
our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working
at the time of your purchase.
A design so good, Mercury went on to create a tribute to it in the
form of the Marauder and both the Marauder and its inspiration, the
P71 Crown Victoria, are collectible and desirable as
representations of the right side of law and order! There are still
vintage Crown Vics in service in certain parts of the country, a
testament to their utility and dependability. Here's the
opportunity for a left lane runner that would fit right in on
Cruise Night.
