For Sale: 1971 Buick Riviera in South Lyon, Michigan

Vehicle Description

For Sale, my 1971 Buick Riviera.  These “Gentlemen’s Muscle Cars” are getting harder and harder to find, especially in good shape.  I’ve enjoyed this car for the past 18 years, never regretted owning it once.  It’s a head turner at car shows and really anywhere you drive it.  Bill Mitchell’s classic design is to this day one of the boldest cars ever produced by GM.  It is a true piece of American automotive history and will continue to be rarer and more sought after.

My price (a steal) is reflecting the overall condition.  Please know that if you want to make this a prize winning show car, it will take some TLC and some cash.  But it is a good candidate for restoration; OR, just keep doing like me and hold off on that body off restoration and enjoy a wonderful car as it is for a while!

Modifications include:  headers and full Flowmaster exhaust and tips, retro look digital radio, halo headlamps, remote battery disconnect, TA performance valve covers, rear hi-jacker adjustable shocks, hi torque mini starter, tachometer, etc.

Some things that are non-original:
The grille is actually a metal one from a 1972, the 71s were plastic and often broke.  The car had the faux air scoops on the hood when I bought it.  They could be removed but I always kinda liked them so I left them on.  The air cleaner is an aftermarket one, if you’re looking for full resto you’d need to find one on eBay.

i can probably dig up the original valve covers, starter, maybe even the headlight bulbs, etc for any buyer who wants the originals for a resto.

Disclosures:  The paint is far from perfect.  It’s great from a distance but a show car finish would require some work.  The body is largely rust free but there are a few spots, chips, scratches that would require some attention, nothing that would require panel replacements, and floorpans, frame, etc. are in good shape.  The HVAC never worked.  It’s all there but it’s too complicated for me to troubleshoot.  I do have the thick shop manual book I will include with the car for anyone wanting to tackle it.  The starter solenoid occasionally doesn’t engage and you have to crawl under the car and bang on it, but that always fixes it.
While the car does have GS badges, I cannot guarantee 100% that it actually is.  My title doesn’t say GS, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not.  The guy I bought it from told me the same thing, he wasn’t completely sure.  If you can confirm somehow that it IS, that’s a huge bonus, as you will see in the prices for GS cars for sale out there!

There is a small crack in the lower corner of the windshield.  Interior is generally in very excellent shape but there might be a couple things to clean up if you’re going for a show car.  The fuel gauge works sometimes, and sometimes not.  I replaced the sending unit and checked the grounding, not sure what to try next.  Until then just keep fuel in it.

This is the only car I’ve ever owned that doesn’t leak any fluids on my garage floor.  Just changed the oil recently.

If you have any questions, please reach out, I’ll do my best to answer.  I’m looking for someone who appreciates these boat tail beauties as much as me and will continue to take care of it or maybe even turn it into the show car it deserves to be!

As I stated earlier my price already reflects appropriate discounts and is well in line with other examples you will find for sale.  And I’m not even charging any extra for the possibility that it might be a true GS which as you know could make this thing a gold mine if restored to its full glory.  So please no lowball offers.
Thanks for looking.  I hope someone out there will love this car as much as I have!
