This custom 1951 Cadillac Series 62 Royal Parade convertible is
powered by its original 331ci OHV V-8 engine and heavy-duty
four-speed Hydramatic automatic transmission. Built by General
Motors at the Cadillac factory as a one-off parade car for Her
Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth prior to her accession as Queen
Elizabeth II in February 1952, it was provided to the princess by
General Motors Canada for her 1951 Canadian Royal Tour. The car is
equipped with power steering, power windows, power-adjustable front
seats, an enlarged radiator for slow-speed parade use and a
factory-installed four-barrel carburetor - one of only two 1951
Cadillacs built with this modification. An aviation company
produced the custom clear bubbletop convertible enclosure,
providing weather protection while allowing occupants to remain
visible during public appearances. The exterior is finished in
black over a red Hydes leather interior. The car retains its
factory-installed commemorative dash plaque documenting its royal
heritage. Included with the sale is an invoice for the build,
historical books and images showing the princess with the car, and
an impressive silver and rhinestone replica of the George IV State
Diadem that was commissioned in 1820 for King George IV and later
became one of the most iconic crowns associated with Queen
Elizabeth II. Completely restored to high-quality show standards,
this one-off, historically significant Cadillac was commissioned
specifically for use by the British Royal Family and was used by
Princess Elizabeth during official royal parades in 1951.
