The last car off the assembly line in September 1977, this 1978
Porsche 930 Targa is powered by a 3.3-liter turbo engine, with
approximately 29,000 miles on the engine and transmission,
according to included documentation. Before its sale and export to
the U.S., Porsche removed the original engine for unknown reasons
(Porsche documentation lists original engine number 6880024 and
engine type 930/60). This car bears VIN 9308910011; according to
Porsche, it was given the number 9 for engine type in the VIN
because it was not officially a production car (the 25 Group 5 RSR
cars built at the same time are the only Porsches that share the
number 9 for engine type in the VIN). It was under Porsche
ownership for its first three years, wearing license plate
BB-JC-930. The car was originally Olive Green with a black interior
and was repainted red in the early 1980s. Evidence of the original
Olive Green paint remains on the body panels and within the
interior compartment. It is currently covered in a removable Olive
Green vinyl wrap. The body appears to retain its original panels
except for the front valance, which is shown in early photo
documentation. According to accompanying documentation, Konrad
Racing imported this Porsche to the U.S. in the early 1980s.
Documentation from Porsche dated Sept. 1, 1995, says, "Today we can
state that your 911 Turbo Targa is the only 1978 model known in
existence." It was featured in the December 1994 issue of
Excellence magazine in an article titled "The Turbo Targa Porsche
Never Built." A binder containing extensive documentation relating
to this car is included in the sale.
