For Sale: 1955 Ford Fairlane in Columbus, Ohio

Vehicle Description

$22,995

Cruisin Classics is pleased to present this iconic 1955 Ford Fairlane two-door hardtop. Named after Henry Ford's estate in Dearborn, the Fairlane was Ford's premier full-sized flagship model in 1955 and a direct competitor with Chevrolet's Bel Air. This Fairlane comes to us today dressed in a respray of its original colors - Tropical Rose (W) and Snowshoe White (E) - an absolutely beautiful combination. The paint looks like it has been on the car for some time and is what we'd call good driver quality, with small imperfections but a nice shine. This Ford is loaded up with copious amounts of brightwork and trim of varying condition. Most pieces look good, but there are some hazy areas, pitting, and small dings present here and there. These minor demerits are not enough, though, to detract from the overall stylish and luxurious look of the car. The hood features a large chrome jet-like ornament typical of cars from this era. Under the jet is a colorful Ford crest badge and a "Fairlane" script badge. Flanking the jet, on the fronts of the fenders are round headlights with bright "eyebrow" trim above them. Below the hood is a stamped chrome eggcrate grille with conical turn signal lights in bright bezels at either side. Under the grille is a chrome wrap-around bumper with guards. Viewing the car from the side, the color combo and bright trim make for a very classy look. Body side molding begins atop the fenders behind the headlights, flows down onto the sides of the car, takes a dip, then continues all the way back to the taillights. It's this molding that separates the paint colors on the main body - pink on the bottom, white above, all topped off with a pink roof. That molding is far from the only brightwork on the sides; there's also a bright surround for the panoramic windshield, window trim, dual fender-mounted side mirrors, door handles, rear window surround, drip rail molding, trim atop the rear fins, and gravel guards on the fender skirts. The Fairlane sits atop a set of steel wheels with bright domed hubcaps all wrapped in Kumho Solus thin white wall tires - a great look. Around back you'll find round "rocket thruster" taillights with bright trim on the tailfins, a hidden gas fill behind the license plate, a set of chrome exhaust tips, and another wrap-around chrome bumper with guards. There are multiple badges on the decklid: Doenges Tulsa (we believe that's the dealership that originally sold the car), another colored Ford crest, "Fairlane" script, and "Overdrive" script. At the lip of the trunk lid is a decorative panel running side to side that has quite a bit of pitting. Take a quick peek under the rear of the car to find that it has a newer gas tank and a solid undercarriage.

Lift the hood to reveal a clean and presentable engine bay with a 4.5-liter 272ci V-8 at the center. The block, intake manifold, and water pump have all been painted red. Topping off the engine are a set of black valve covers with "Ford V-8" decals, a Ford 2-barrel carburetor, and a grey oil-bath air cleaner with correct Ford decals. The V-8 is mated up to a 3-speed manual transmission with manual overdrive and a column shift (3-on-the-tree). Exhaust travels through cast manifolds and glass-pack style mufflers before exiting the chrome tips with a pleasing rumble. Stopping power comes from manual drum brakes with a single reservoir master cylinder. Other highlights under the hood include a 12-volt electrical system, a newer-looking radiator, and manual steering.

Prepare to be impressed when you open the drivers door to check out the interior! The seats, door panels, side panels and rear package tray have all been redone in pink and white vinyl and it looks fantastic. The door panels offer armrests and they're adorned with a swooping trim-piece that emulates the style of the side molding on the exterior. The front and rear bench seats are a blend of white and pink vinyl with buttons and piping. Seatbelts are provided for the front seat passengers. The package tray has been covered in pink vinyl with white buttons to tie everything together. Overhead is a tight perforated white vinyl headliner in good condition and a pair of visors dressed in white and pink. Underfoot is older black hook & loop carpet that is showing it's age with some staining and fading. The driver is treated to an original white 2-spoke steering wheel with a horn ring and working horn. The wheel is on a stationary column that is also home to the shifter for the manual transmission. The dash ahead is painted pink on top and white on the lower section, perfectly matching the rest of the interior. Framed by the wheel is an arched 120mph speedometer (inop.) with gauges for fuel and temp (both inop.). Equus gauges for water, volts, and oil have been mounted under the dash to keep a tighter eye on what's happening under the hood. In the center of the dash are three bright-ringed circles that contain working heat and fan controls, the original AM radio (inop.), and a clock (inop.). Also on the dash is a switch to operate the working windshield wipers. Under the dash to the driver's right is a pull switch for the additional overdrive gear. Ahead of the front passenger is a glovebox with "Ford V-8" badging, but the door does not open. Around back in the trunk is a plaid vinyl mat and a non-matching bias-ply wide white wall spare tire.
