For Sale: 2006 Pontiac GTO in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

2006 Pontiac GTO Coupe

Initially, the GTO was powered by GM's LS1 V8 making 350hp. For 2005, Pontiac slid the LS2 6.0 liter V8 under the hood, good for 400 hp. Blasting from zero to 60 in less than 5.5 seconds and blitzing the quarter mile in under 14 ticks means a 2006 Pontiac GTO will be the fastest goat you've ever ridden!

For consignment, a 2006 Pontiac GTO with a title verified 33,635 actual. Here's a one owner example, always garaged, and with a few upgrade modifications. With just a three year production run and limited numbers, GTO's are now mostly reserved for car shows and club meets, and just 20 years later, seeing one on the street is a rare treat!

Exterior
GTO generations would become increasingly aerodynamic, reaching its peak with the final iteration; flush headlights, a smooth front bumper and integrated fog lights make for a wind defying front, complete with a graceful bow to Pontiac with the arrowhead up front between the honeycomb grille. This Phantom Black Metallic example has the hood scoop sporting dual openings, just like the GTO's of yore. The slightly menacing profile continues out back where smooth, Altezza style headlights over a touch of red over the black bumper and stamped valance that also makes room for the dual exhaust. 17-inch 5 spoke wheels are blackened here and wrapped in 245/40ZR17 tires with late 2019 date codes and things are so clean and dark, it's hard to see where the rim ends and the sidewalls begin! At distance, this is an Ace of spades, but our intrepid photographer finds some minor imperfections including a small rough spot on the hood, bubbling staining on the rocker panels, general inclusions, and a few chin scrapes.

Interior
Fashioned from molded vinyl and suede, the black door panels are as aerodynamic as the exterior. High back bolstered buckets in charcoal black leather, have an embroidered GTO in their uppers and along with the rear 2+2, present in excellent condition with only the slightest signs of use on the driver's side. A four spoke steering wheel fronts the dash which immediately reminds you of the car's sporting nature with red faced, overlapping gauges in a black and nickel frame. Two small gauges top the center stack like frog eyes, followed by vents, A/C knobs, and the fully integrated AM/FM/CD radio, all in great shape. A stout B&M short shifter takes center stage between the seats wrapped in a red threaded boot over black carpet and under a soft, formed headliner. The modest trunk is adorned with a GTO branded fitted mat and walled by gray panels.

Drivetrain
We find a clean engine bay housing the 6.0 liter LS2 V8 with an astounding 400 horsepower, helped here with a Volant cold air intake to mingle with the fuel injection. It's mated to a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission that routes power to the rear axle and 3.46 gears with limited slip. Our consignor lets us know a new clutch was added in 2024.

Undercarriage
All clean here as well with dual exhaust that travels through MagnaFlow mufflers on its way to the back. Power disc brakes are on board with slotted rotors and Brembo fronts and the fully independent suspension includes Macpherson struts in front and a multilink and coil springs in back. Koni shocks are on board along with adjustable sway bars.

Drive-Ability
We take a comfortable seat in this winged chariot and bring the six liter to life and are rewarded with a pleasing exhaust note. The short shifter is a joy and so is the potential power underfoot as we lap this dark ride around the test loop. Functionally, everything is up to par 100%, no red or even yellow flags here as everything works as it should. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Despite the original consternation from GTO devotees in the early 2000's and roots in an Australian car, everyone has come to realize that these GTOs do have a place in automotive history. No worries gents, the 1964 GTO will always be revered as the great grandfather of the muscle car movement, but these modern muscle cars of a now defunct maker will appear more than just a footnote in the history of American performance cars. This one represents the model beautifully and provides the opportunity to own a low mileage example.
