1967 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible — Restomod Driver with RS-Style Hideaway Headlights
Offered for sale is a very attractive 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible finished in red with a clean, well-kept interior and a number of tasteful mechanical and electrical upgrades.
This is an honest, enjoyable driver/restomod, not a concours restoration. The car presents extremely well and has the look and character that make a first-generation Camaro so desirable.
The car is equipped with functioning RS-style hideaway headlights and the associated 1967 electric headlamp-door mechanism. The headlight system has recently been sorted out and repaired so that the doors operate properly.
Important RS disclosure: The car has the RS-style hidden-headlight equipment, but factory documentation conclusively proving that the car was originally built as a Rally Sport has not been located. The Fisher Body cowl tag has been examined, and the relevant Group 3 marking appears to be 3K rather than a clearly readable 3L. Since 3L is the 1967 Fisher Body code associated with the Rally Sport option, the car is not being represented as a documented factory RS.
The car is instead being offered honestly as a very attractive 1967 Camaro Convertible with RS-style equipment, extensive modifications and upgrades, and substantial documentation relating to the work performed.

Interior
The interior is one of the car's strongest features. The seats, rear seat, door panels, carpeting, dash, console and gauges all present very well. The upholstery is clean and attractive, and the overall interior has been very well maintained.
RS-Style Hideaway Headlights
The car is equipped with functioning concealed headlights using the electric headlamp-door arrangement appropriate to a 1967 Camaro. The system includes the headlamp-door motors, mechanical linkage and limit-switch hardware.
The hideaway headlights had previously been affected by aging wiring, poor connections and corrosion. The system has since been thoroughly sorted out, including the relays and connections, and the hideaway headlights now operate properly.
The vehicle also has an updated wiring/fuse-panel setup. The wiring is visible in portions of the engine compartment, and the work has been documented. The goal here was reliability and functionality rather than hiding modifications behind a cosmetic restoration.
Headlamp Mounting and Front-End Inspection
Detailed photographs have been taken of both the driver and passenger sides of the hidden-headlamp assemblies, including the motors, linkage, limit-switch hardware, mounting brackets and surrounding front-end structure.
The mounting structure and hardware observed in those photographs appear consistent with a properly installed 1967 RS-style hidden-headlamp system. No obvious crude fabrication, cut-and-weld conversion work, or improvised mounting arrangement was observed in the areas photographed.
This inspection is encouraging, but it is not being represented as conclusive proof that Chevrolet installed the RS equipment when the car was originally built. The car is being offered transparently based on the equipment and condition that are present today.
VIN and Cowl Tag
The VIN and Fisher Body cowl tag are present and have been cleaned sufficiently for inspection.
The information visible on the two tags is consistent with a 1967 Camaro Convertible built at the Van Nuys/Los Angeles plant. The VIN and body information correspond rather than presenting an obvious mismatch.
The VIN tag and its rivets have also been photographed closely. No obvious evidence of VIN-tag removal, restamping or tampering was observed in the photographs provided.
Buyers are welcome to inspect the tags and vehicle in person and draw their own conclusions.
Engine and Transmission
The car currently has a 1968-era Chevrolet 327 small-block V8. The engine block casting number observed is 3914660, which identifies the block as a 327-type Chevrolet casting. The engine is not being represented as the original drivetrain installed in the Camaro when new.
The car has an automatic overdrive transmission with a TV cable and is believed to be a 700R4, although the exact transmission model has not yet been positively identified.
The Fisher Body information appears to indicate that the car was originally equipped with a Powerglide, so the current transmission should be considered a modification rather than represented as original.
Known Items
In the interest of being completely transparent:
Turn signals currently do not automatically self-cancel when the steering wheel returns to center.
Fuel gauge does not operate consistently and may require diagnosis/repair.
The convertible top has some wrinkles from having remained folded in its storage compartment for an extended period, but the material and rear window remain in very good condition.
Actual mileage is unknown.
The current engine and transmission are not being represented as the original drivetrain.
The wiring harness has been replaced with an updated aftermarket harness.
The car has RS-style hideaway headlights, but factory documentation conclusively establishing that the car was originally built with the Rally Sport option has not been located.
