widely credited as the original muscle car and kicked off the craze
that symbolized the 1960s and 1970s in America. As manufacturers
began coming out with evermore aggressive looking cars, Pontiac did
a full restyling for the GTO for the 1968 model year with a
fastback rear and more muscular front end. This 1969 GTO is a great
driver example, presented in black over a green vinyl
interior.Originally sold in Canada, this GTO was finished from the
factory in Limelight Green, but was refinished in black under
previous ownership. The black exterior finish gives the GTO a very
tough look, which is complimented by the rear decklid spoiler and
dual-exit exhaust. A set of Rally II wheels in staggered 14-inch
front and 15-inch rears are wrapped in a set of redline tires and
hide a set of front disc brakes. The Green vinyl interior presents
in remarkable original condition, and features two front bucket
seats, paired with a bench in the rear. Built for performance, this
GTO isn't stacked with luxury features, but does include an AM
radio placed within a wooden strip on the dashboard. In front of
the driver sits a 3-spoke steering wheel that frames a pair of
deeply-hooded gauges.Under the hood sits a 400ci V8 that was rated
from the factory at 350 horsepower and a stout 445 lb-ft of torque.
Based on date codes, it is believed the engine is original to the
car. An upgraded Quadrajet carburetor from a 1968 Firebird 400HO
has been installed on the car, as has a 10-bolt 3.08 Positraction
rear end from a 1967 Chevelle. Shifting is handled by a 1970 Muncie
M21 4-speed manual gearbox, which is a sought after upgrade on
these cars. From the factory, the car was fitted with the heavy
duty F40 suspension front and rear. The GTO is the original muscle
car and still a name that carries a lot of weight in the classic
car space. This is the perfect example for the enthusiast looking
for a car that is great to drive, and can be used frequently,
without the concern for messing up a museum piece. Offered in a
great color combination, this is an excellent way to enjoy one of
the greatest muscle cars of the era.*Additional Information* *
