This 1955 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup takes Chevrolet's unmistakable
Advance Design styling and turns it into a thoroughly built street
machine. Finished in a deep metallic red, the truck has a rich,
custom appearance that highlights the rounded fenders and classic
body lines beautifully. The stance is equally aggressive, with
Billet Specialties wheels, wide rear rubber, and a lowered
suspension giving it a muscular presence without taking away from
its vintage character.
Under the hood is a built 383ci stroker V8 featuring a balanced
rotating assembly, Holley 750 double-pumper carburetor, aluminum
high-rise intake, MSD ignition, aluminum radiator, electric cooling
fan, and a number of additional performance upgrades. Exhaust is
handled through Hooker headers, Dynomax 3-inch Bullet mufflers, and
a dual-flow exhaust setup. The engine bay itself is nicely
presented, and the fiberglass tilt front end makes access to the
drivetrain exceptionally easy.
Backing the small-block is a TH350 automatic transmission equipped
with a Hurst Quarter Stick shifter and B&M Holeshot converter.
Power is sent rearward to a Ford 9-inch rear end fitted with a
Richmond 3.50 gear and Strange 31-spline axles. The chassis has
been upgraded with a 1970 Nova front clip, Moroso front springs,
Competition Engineering ladder bars, and rear coilover shocks,
giving this 3100 hardware far beyond what Chevrolet offered in
1955.
Stopping and steering have also been modernized with power
steering, power brakes, and front disc brakes. The build sheet
additionally notes new glass, new interior and carpeting, and
adjustable bucket seats. Inside, black leather upholstery with
contrasting red piping carries the exterior color scheme into the
cabin, while an aftermarket gauge cluster and floor-mounted shifter
add to the truck's purposeful hot-rod feel.
The bed is just as nicely finished as the rest of the truck,
featuring a wood floor surrounded by black-finished inner panels
and wheel tubs. A bed-mounted 12-gallon fuel cell and relocated
battery help clean up the chassis while reinforcing the
performance-oriented nature of the build. From the polished
aluminum fuel cell to the neatly finished wood, it is a bed that's
meant to be shown off rather than covered up.
With its metallic red finish, custom black leather interior, built
stroker V8, TH350 automatic, Ford 9-inch rear, upgraded suspension,
and classic 3100 styling, this 1955 Chevrolet is much more than a
restored vintage pickup. It is a thoughtfully assembled hot rod
that combines the presence of a mid-century Chevrolet truck with
the performance and drivability of a purpose-built street
machine.
