INTRODUCTION: This Factory Five Daytona has the looks, performance
and comfort! Finished in the highly desirable Gulf Oil racing
livery, it's powered by a Ford Performance crate motor, trans and
rear end! Air conditioning was a must have when I acquired it from
the original owner. Built in 2018, it has 6,000 highly enjoyed yet
carefully maintained miles, and the entire car still looks
practically new.
EXTERIOR: The Factory Five Type 65 has one of the most unmistakable
shapes in motorsports, inspired by the legendary Shelby Daytona
Coupe. Its lightweight fiberglass body features a long, low nose,
muscular fenders, a fastback roofline, and the dramatic Kamm style
tail that gives it its competition bred appearance. This one really
stands out in the highly desirable Gulf Oil Livery paint scheme,
complete with number 74 graphics. It is polished smooth and glossy.
Dual chrome side pipes run along each side, adding both attitude
and an aggressive exhaust note. 17" Halibrand style wheels wrapped
in Mickey Thompson performance tires complete the vintage road race
look.
INTERIOR: It is certainly racing inspired, but this one adds some
very desirable creature comforts. It has detachable side windows,
an upholstered dash and fully carpeted floors. Aluminum Kirkey
racing seats with harnesses hold you firmly in place, surrounded by
a full tubular roll cage. A complete set of electronic analog
gauges includes a GPS speedometer, and the leather grip steering
wheel is detachable. The Tremec six-speed shifter sits right next
to the e-brake, and there's also a battery master disconnect
switch. Best of all- and I wouldn't have bought it without it- it
has air conditioning and heat, making it much more enjoyable to
drive. Believe it or not, it even has cruise control! It's a great
combination of authentic race car atmosphere with just enough
comfort for the street.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: It is exceptionally clean and packed with
modern Ford performance. At its heart is a Gen 2 Coyote 5.0-liter
crate engine from Ford Performance, featuring all aluminum
construction, dual overhead cams, 32 valves and variable cam
timing, producing approximately 435 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of
torque. It's managed by a Ford Performance control pack for
reliable, modern operation. Stainless steel headers let it breathe,
while a large aluminum radiator, electric fan and Moroso overflow
tank keep it cool. It also features KRC power steering and air
conditioning, making this Daytona much more enjoyable on the
street. A Tilton three reservoir master cylinder setup operates the
brakes and hydraulic clutch. The underside of the hood is finished
in a durable chipguard coating. Overall, it's a very clean,
purposeful installation that combines modern Coyote performance
with the Daytona's legendary looks.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The rear glass is actually a functional hatch
that opens up, providing convenient access to the cargo area.
Inside, the trunk is carpeted and offers a surprising amount of
usable storage space for a car with such serious racing
heritage.
UNDERSIDE: This Factory Five Shelby Daytona is built on a strong,
rigid tubular space frame chassis designed for serious performance.
It features fully independent front and rear suspension with
tubular control arms, adjustable coilover gas shocks, and
rack-and-pinion steering. Wilwood disc brakes at all four wheels, 6
piston calipers with drilled and slotted rotors in front. Looking
up at the motor, it has an extra capacity, low profile oil pan and
a mini high torque starter. A new Ford Performance Tremec T56
six-speed manual transmission with a hydraulic 11-inch RAM clutch
sends the power back to a new Ford 8.8 rear end with 3.55 posi
gears. Everything underneath is exceptionally clean, fresh, and
performance focused.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: What sets this one apart is the Gulf Oil color scheme.
The engine, trans, and rear end were all purchased new, not donor
sourced. It includes air conditioning and side windows, which I
consider must haves. This is a great example of an exhilarating
car!
