1931 Ford Model A Standard Roadster

By a wide margin, Ford Model A's are the oldest cars with a large following. There are chapters of the Model A Ford Club of America in every state and internationally in places like New Zealand and Sweden. All this to say these are still wildly popular and important cars and while we don't claim to sell as many as Henry Ford, we have seen our share of Model A's finding new homes.

For consignment, a 1931 Ford Model A standard roadster showing 67,258 miles on the odometer, but the true miles are unknown. This car has been owned by our consignor since the early 80's, bought not long after a rebuild. The standard roadster includes a taller roof frame for better headroom.

Exterior
Stunning coverage of Kewanee Green envelopes this classic, a color that translates from the Winnebago tribe language to prairie chicken. Although weathered, the tan canvas top is the ideal contrasting feature for this Model A which picks up not only on the spare tire cover in back, but on the white wall tires below. Bright green 19-inch wire wheels hunker under black fenders while polished band-style bumpers anchor each end of the car. The reflective radiator shell joins metal headlight buckets and a standard radiator cap ornament while the back is adorned with a fifth wheel and a fold up wooden luggage rack. Cowl lights cling to the side and wind wings flare from the A-pillar. Green and black pinstripes make their way around the car. Imperfections include crazing and cracking throughout, scuffs, some typical patina and dulling, chipped paint and surface rust especially on the hood hinge, cracked paint, scuffs, edgewear, and blistering. Yes, she's going to need paint, but the body is straight!

Interior
Marbled saddle vinyl forms the door panel covers and present near flawlessly as does the stitched bench seat and rumble seat in back. Which shows some minor use creasing throughout and some light compression. A four spoke steering wheel fronts the painted dash augmented with a green pinstripe, surrounding the center instrument panel that includes the ignition port, and shows some oxidation of the metal. Saddle vinyl lines the footwells and a textured rubberized mat covers the floor where you'll also find the shifter and handbrake.

Drivetrain
Presenting in original configuration is the 201ci inline four cylinder with 40 horsepower and a 1-barrel carburetor. It's mated to a 3-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear axle and 3.78 gears.

Undercarriage
Clean with some typical patina and oil on the engine and transmission bottom, we find no invasive rust here. Mechanical drum brakes are standard on all four wheels and transverse leaf springs are used front and rear. A single exhaust wears a stock style muffler and terminates under the car near the rear axle.

Drive-Ability
We've only had about 200 Model A's to compare this one to, and it holds up to par for the driving experience, delivering a trouble free lap around our test loop and this one includes the open air option! We note the horn and brake light not working but all other functions operate as intended. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

Perhaps the most common, most serviceable, most supported model of the early American automotive industry. Model A's will forever be shining examples of mass production, the assembly line, and American ingenuity. With a fresh coat of expertly applied paint, this one could reach show winning status!
