The Pontiac Grand Prix was introduced by Pontiac for the 1962 model
year as a sporty, upscale personal luxury car. By 1969, the Grand
Prix had entered its third generation and continued to offer
distinctive styling, strong V8 power, and a more luxurious interior
than many of Pontiac's other performance-oriented models. The 1969
Grand Prix was offered in Model J and Model SJ configurations, with
the Model J providing buyers with a combination of performance,
comfort, and style. Pontiac's full-size platform and powerful V8
engines made the Grand Prix an appealing choice for drivers looking
for a personal luxury car with genuine American performance. The
Grand Prix's long hood, short deck styling and available manual
transmission helped give it a sporty character that set it apart
from many of its competitors.
