Offered for sale is an exceptionally well-preserved 1964½ Ford Mustang Coupe with outstanding provenance, desirable factory equipment, and a high degree of originality. Finished in its beautiful Sunlight Yellow with a contrasting white interior with black accents, this Mustang has the unmistakable look and character of Ford’s earliest production Mustangs.
Purchased new from Western Slope Auto in Western Colorado in 1964, this Mustang remained with its original owner for more than six decades before our recent acquisition. Its long-term ownership history, originality, and desirable configuration make it a particularly interesting example of Ford's iconic first-year Mustang.
Power comes from its numbers-matching 289 V8, paired with its numbers-matching 4-speed manual transmission and original rear-end differential. The car retains most of its original equipment and was ordered with an impressive combination of options, including air conditioning, factory-style power steering/power-assisted steering, tinted glass, back-up lights, special exterior trim, and 14-inch wheels.
The Mustang currently shows approximately 134,700 original miles. Approximately 20 years ago, it received a high-quality repaint in its original color, which continues to present beautifully. At the same time, the front seats were professionally recovered. The contrasting white interior presents very well and gives the car the classic appearance associated with these early Mustangs.
Throughout its life, the Mustang has been maintained while preserving its largely original character, including previous clutch and brake work. After spending time in long-term storage, the car was recently brought back out and carefully recommissioned.
