Cruisin Classics is excited to present to you this Factory Five 1965 Shelby Daytona. Factory Five has been making Cobra and Daytona kits for many years and they're well known in the classic car community for producing quality products. While these kits provide an excellent starting point for a build, the end result is subject to the quality of engine and drivetrain choices as well as the paintwork and finishing touches of the builder. That is where this particular Daytona really stands out from the crowd! The builder of this car opted for a 5.0 litre Coyote engine with a 6-speed Getrag manual transmission - an absolutely fabulous choice for both a day at the track and the drive to and from. The most recent owner made use of the car in exactly that fashion, logging many hours at the track with great success - taking first place in the Bellefontaine Hill Climb Vintage Class two years in a row! This car is well sorted, reliable, and ready for a buyer who wants a properly executed Daytona coupe. Let's dig a little deeper into this beast of a car...

This Daytona build started with a complete jig-welded tubular frame with aluminum floors, transmission cover, foot boxes, trunk pan, dash, firewall, engine bay, splashguards, and radiator duct. To that base, a full roll cage was welded in, along with an SCCA-style rear crossbar in the cockpit. Hung on this framework is a laminate composite body made of high-quality vinyl ester resin. The body is finished with a slick coat of blue paint with white racing stripes and roundels. The paint falls into the good driver-quality category, with some small chips and abrasions from having been driven. Up front on the hinged nose are a power bulge and a molded-in hood scoop that leads fresh air directly to the radiator. The deep-set LED headlights and small turn signal lights are covered with Lexan plastic for protection. The open grille low on the nose is flanked by a set of fog lights. On both sides of the nose are screened vents and hood latches. Grey side pipes exit the engine bay under the side vent area and travel midway down the length of the doors before turning their tips outward to release exhaust gases with an aggressive growl. The small handleless doors above feature additional white roundels, and they are opened by reaching in and releasing the interior handles. The car comes with Lexan plastic slider door windows that can be attached when desired. Also on the doors, you'll find elongated adjustable black side mirrors. The sloping rear roofline is home to a large hinged tinted glass hatchback that ends at the back just before the riveted rear spoiler. On the passenger-side rear quarter, you'll find an appropriate LeMans-style gas fill door. At the back of the car is a small oval-shaped rear panel with working taillights and a license plate holder. This Daytona rolls down the road on a set of Kansei KNP wheels ($1,600 new!) wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tires - a great combination both for looks and performance.

The exterior style of this car is so cool you can't look away, but it's under the hood that this Daytona really shines. Powering this ride is a 5.0-litre Ford Coyote engine with an OZ Tuning Omega-tune and RTD3 interface that put out 420hp on a dyno. Both the engine and transmission in this car came out of a 2012 Mustang GT with only 12K miles and were installed in this car in 2023. The Coyote V-8 is topped off with a Gen 3 Mustang intake manifold, blue "Shelby" side covers, and a Spectre air cleaner. Knock sensors have been added, and so has an IMRC lockout kit that permanently locks intake manifold valves in the fully open position - creating a direct airflow path for more horsepower. This Daytona is also equipped with power steering, an Old Air Products A/C and heating system (A/C currently inop.), and an aluminum radiator with a 16" puller fan with an Evil Energy 800ml overflow tank and stainless hoses. Exhaust flows through headers and sidepipes, producing a growl that lets everyone know that this car means business. The hearty V8 is mated to a Getrag 6-speed manual transmission that sends power to the rear wheels via a Detroit Speed rear end with 3.31 limited slip gears. Stopping power comes from 4-wheel power disc brakes with black Brembo calipers up front and slotted rotors all around, plus a new master cylinder ($700). Being a track-ready car, serious attention was paid to the suspension components as well. All four corners are outfitted with Koni shocks and Hyperco coilover springs, and up front are tubular lower control arms and adjustable upper arms. In the back, you'll find a 3-link rear with forged aluminum lower control arms. As you can see, this car was made to be a winner at the track, but it's also tame enough to drive around town on regular roads - the best of both worlds!

Open the driver's door to find a black interior with some very well-chosen features. The door panels are spartan - simple black vinyl with non-locking handles and a brown leather door-check strap. The bucket seats are Recaro EVO 8s - the same as you'd find in a 2003-2005 Mitsubishi Lancer. The seats have black suede side and base bolsters with blue & black patterned cloth inserts. The seats are very comfortable, and they hold you firmly in place. Both show some light staining, but are otherwise in excellent condition. Helping to keep you in your seat are a set of Simpson 4-point racing seat belts. A quick glance around the cabin reveals the black roll cage with padded vinyl covers. While looking up, you'll notice that there is no headliner, but there is a Crux CUB-15 Bullet backup camera monitor mounted where your rearview mirror would normally be. Underfoot is nice black carpet that also covers the rear cargo area as well. Between the front seats is a center console that's covered in padded black vinyl. It is home to a 6-speed shifter from a 2016 Mustang topped with a Ford Performance shift knob. Ahead if the driver is a Sparco Ford Performance steering wheel with a short hub - it is a stationary wheel that definitely gives you that race car feel. Immediately behind the wheel on a padded black vinyl dash are an Autometer 160mph speedometer and 8K tach. The odometer reads only 2,495 miles, and that's since the car was completed in mid 2023. Flanking the gauges, and only an index finger away from the wheel, are turn signal indicator buttons with a self-cancelling feature. At either side of the dash are round chrome multi-directional air vents. The center of the upper dash is home to an AEM CD-5 digital display racing dash that offers such a multitude of features you'd do best to go to their website and check out the finer details. Suffice it to say - if you are building a track car, you're going to want one of these! On the dash below is a row of six black flip-switches that operate the following functions from left to right: lights/brights, fog lights, back-up camera, wipers, under-dash light, and rear compartment lights. Beneath the switches are a horn button and a bright HVAC panel that operates the Old Air Products system - the heat and fan work as they should, but the A/C does not blow cold. Back in the cargo area you'll find a hood prop, the plastic slider-windows with frames, and a car cover in a storage bag.

If you're looking for a Daytona that's track-ready but also suitable to take your wife out to dinner in - this is the car for you! This car is well-built, beautiful, well-optioned, and an absolute blast to drive! Give our friendly staff a call and be the lucky one to call this ride your own and take it out and rip around in it every weekend!
