For Sale: 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger in Madisonville, Texas

Vehicle Description

Built with a singular purpose and executed to a high standard throughout, this 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger is a professionally constructed Pro Street machine that combines uncompromising performance with full street legality. Powered by a 572 cubic-inch big-block Mopar and supported by a chassis engineered to handle its output, the car has been assembled using premium components from many of the most respected names in high-performance racing. It is equally capable of drawing attention at a local cruise night, competing at the drag strip, or being driven on the street.

Unlike many purpose-built race cars that eventually lose their street manners, this Dart retains full glass, roll-up windows, complete lighting, and a fully functional electrical system. It is titled, registered, licensed, and insurable, making it a true street-legal Pro Street car rather than a race car adapted for occasional road use.

At its core is a professionally assembled 572 cubic-inch Mopar big-block built around a World Products block and equipped with premium internal components including a Dragon Slayer crankshaft, custom Diamond pistons, Indy Big EZ cylinder heads, T&D shaft-mounted rocker arms, and a Crower camshaft. Fuel is supplied through a 900 CFM C&S carburetor calibrated for E85, while an NOS Pro Fogger nitrous system provides additional performance when called upon. Supporting systems include an MSD 7AL-3 Pro Drag ignition, Moroso vacuum pump, Meziere electric water pump, Be Cool aluminum cooling system, and custom ceramic-coated TTI headers.

Power is transferred through a professionally prepared TorqueFlite 727 automatic featuring a Turbo Action Cheetah Pro Series trans brake, upgraded J&L internals, billet sprag, 300M input and output shafts, and a performance torque converter. A Currie Fab 9-inch rear axle fitted with Mark Williams axles and 4.30:1 gears completes a drivetrain engineered to withstand substantial horsepower while maintaining long-term durability.

The chassis reflects the same level of attention to detail found throughout the build. An AlterKation front suspension with adjustable coil-overs, rack-and-pinion steering, S&W four-link rear suspension, QA1 adjustable coil-overs, and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes provide modern handling and braking performance while maintaining the aggressive stance expected of a Pro Street build. The all-steel body, fitted with a lightweight fiberglass hood and replacement Year One body panels where required, remains free from rust and provides a solid foundation for the extensive mechanical upgrades.

This Dart was built as a complete package rather than a collection of individual performance parts. The quality of the component selection, consistency of the workmanship, and comprehensive documentation of the build reflect careful planning and execution throughout. It represents the type of Pro Street build that would be exceptionally difficult—and considerably more expensive—to duplicate today.

Model History

Introduced for the 1967 model year, Dodge's A-body Dart quickly established itself as one of Chrysler Corporation's most successful compact platforms. Its lightweight construction, straightforward engineering, and generous engine compartment made it equally effective as economical transportation and a formidable performance platform. By 1969, the Dart had become a familiar sight on both the street and the drag strip, offering buyers a wide range of engine and trim combinations while maintaining the compact dimensions that contributed to its strong performance.

Although factory high-performance models such as the GTS and later 340 Swinger established the Dart's muscle car credentials, the platform ultimately earned its greatest reputation in the world of drag racing. The Dart's favorable weight distribution, rigid unibody construction, and exceptional aftermarket support made it one of the most frequently modified Mopars in NHRA Sportsman competition, bracket racing, and Pro Street builds throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

The Pro Street movement emerged during the late 1970s and reached its peak popularity in the following decade, combining race-inspired chassis engineering, oversized rear tires, narrowed rear axles, and high-horsepower engines with fully finished, street-driven automobiles. Unlike dedicated race cars, successful Pro Street builds were expected to retain the appearance and functionality of a road-going vehicle while incorporating competition-grade driveline and suspension components.

Today, professionally built Pro Street cars have developed a following of their own, particularly examples assembled with high-quality components and cohesive engineering rather than piecemeal modifications. As the cost of premium drivetrain components, chassis fabrication, and skilled labor has continued to rise, complete builds executed to a high standard have become increasingly difficult to reproduce. This Dart reflects that philosophy, combining classic Mopar styling with modern race-proven engineering in a package designed to be driven, enjoyed, and appreciated for the quality of its execution.
