This is a beautiful 1960 MGA MK I Roadster that has been restored
and extremely well cared for by its owners. The car is finished in
British Racing Green which is complemented by its very nice Tan
Leather interior and Tan Convertible Top in Canvas with a matching
Tonneau cover. Overall this is a stunning car with years and miles
of enjoyment yet to provide its owner.
This car is a top quality driver and had an extensive frame-off
restoration in 1996. Since that time, it has been driven 15,000
miles with only routine maintenance and minor repairs being
performed. Original mileage is unknown as the car came with an
incorrect speedometer that was replaced with a correct used unit.
Complete restoration documentation includes over 300 photos on DVD,
a complete work log documenting the more than 2,000 hours that went
into the restoration, and vendor receipts. This MGA presents well
and has won awards at the local show level.
The frame and all chassis parts were sandblasted, repaired or
replaced, and double primed (zinc chromate, epoxy). All steel body
parts were hand stripped, repaired with steel patch panels and/or
lead filler, treated with Zintex metal conditioner, double primed
(epoxy, sanding) followed with 1965 Corvette red color coat and
clear coat before reassembly. Rocker panels and sills were filled
with closed cell foam to prevent water intrusion. Lower portions of
inner body panels were undercoated. All aluminum panels (doors,
bonnet, boot) were hand stripped, straightened and refinished in
the same manner as the steel panels with the exception of the
Zintex metal conditioner. New wood floorboards were incased in
resin as were wooden components of seats to prevent dampness and
rot. Top is black Stayfast canvas single window style and tonneau
cover is short style Amco vinyl.
The braking system was thoroughly overhauled and now uses silicone
fluid which eliminates water absorption and corrosion. The
electrical system was completely rebuilt with a new wiring harness
enclosed in vinyl loom or clear shrink tubing where appropriate.
The original 2 six volt batteries were replaced with a single 12
volt battery and a new heavy duty generator was installed. System
was converted to negative ground. Reproduction driving lights and
dual horns were added.
Performance/appearance modifications include professionally rebuilt
engine (see included specifications listed below), oil cooler and
fan shroud to prevent overheating, 5 1/2" x 15" knock-off sport
wheels, Yokohama A-32/VR 185/70R15 89V tires, front and rear sway
bars, smaller diameter steering wheel for quicker steering and ease
of entry, Corvette red paint, black vinyl rally stripes, black
fender welting, black fully carpeted boot and parcel shelf, black
leather seats and cockpit rails, aluminum scuff plates on sills,
and a solid teak dashboard. A stainless steel muffler is
installed.
This car is registered with NAMGAR, the North American MGA
Register, and many years of its publication, MGA!, are included in
the sale. Also included in the sale are build information for this
vehicle from the British Motoring Heritage Trust, MGA Driver's
Handbook, original yellow three ring binder Workshop Manual,
Service Parts List, MGA: A History & Restoration Guide, BMC and
Leyland B-Series Engine Data, and several other publications.
The MGA is a great looking, classically styled sports car that is
really fun to drive. It attracts attention wherever it goes and
promotes conversation with many people who have their own MG story.
This MGA 1600 was restored with driving as its main objective and
it has not disappointed in the approximately 28 years that it has
been back on the road. The current owner has driven the car about
5,000 in his 13 years of ownership.
