INTRODUCTION: There's not many cars that deliver an experience as
exhilarating and satisfying as this 1966 Corvette! Shifting through
the gears while listening to the roar of that 427 bellowing through
the side pipes is enough to put a smile on anyone's face. Just as
impressive is the meticulous body off frame restoration. The fit,
finish, and attention to detail are exceptional, making this a
Corvette you'll be just as proud to admire in the garage as you are
to drive on the open road.
EXTERIOR: It is better than it would have been new at the factory!
I went around this body closely and the fit and finish is
outstanding. I did not see any signs of body work, and everything
fits precisely. The power bulge hood hints at the big block 427
beneath it. The headlights open and close properly, and the doors
click shut with a solid, precise feel. It has been repainted in its
original Rally Red, as indicated on the trim tag, and the finish is
polished like glass. All of the chrome, trim, emblems, and
weatherstrips have been replaced, and even the glass has been
replaced. The black convertible top is in like new condition. It
retains a factory power antenna that is functional. The side pipes
not only enhance its aggressive looks, but the sound is absolute
music. It is rolling on reproduction gold line tires wrapped around
beautiful knockoff wheels.
INTERIOR: The interior not only looks meticulous, it feels right,
with outstanding fit and finish throughout. The seats have been
completely rebuilt and recushioned, with upholstery that fits
without a wrinkle. Fresh carpet has been installed front to back,
complemented by reproduction floor mats. Door panels, window
cranks, and interior hardware have all been replaced or restored to
correct specification. The entire dash area is mint, including the
dash pads, instrument panel, and fully restored gauges, along with
the correct 6,500 redline tachometer for the 425hp engine and the
proper AM/FM radio. The glove box door is new, the liner has been
replaced, and the courtesy light functions as it should when
opened. A genuine teakwood steering wheel adds a period correct
finishing touch. The center console houses the correct reverse
lockout shifter, and the bowtie seat belts are in like new
condition. All interior lights are operational. In the rear
compartment, the car retains the correct jack and the lead hammer
for the knockoff wheels, completing a highly authentic and properly
detailed restoration.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Under the hood's very impressive, starting with
the L72 427 four and a quarter horsepower big block engine! It has
high compression, solid lifters, and the factory aluminum intake,
and it was just rebuilt to factory specifications. The engine
carries the correct casting codes, and the number stamped on the
pad matches the number of the car. It's been detailed out very
nicely with the correct valve covers, air cleaner, and ignition
shielding in place. It even features the deep groove pulleys so the
belts stay planted at high RPM. The hoses and clamps are
reproduction, all carefully selected to match original appearance.
Overall, it's very well detailed and properly put together, looking
like it just rolled out of the factory.
UNDERSIDE: This Corvette received a body off frame restoration, and
the attention to detail is evident throughout. The chassis has been
completely rebuilt and beautifully detailed with a smooth black
finish, while the original fiberglass floors remain in their
correct natural fiberglass appearance and are exceptionally clean.
It features fully independent suspension front and rear, with all
of the steering and suspension components restored. The four wheel
disc brake system has been completely rebuilt, including new brake
lines and hoses, and the e-brake assembly is fully functional. The
fuel system has also been restored. Looking up at the drivetrain,
the engine is spotless in correct Chevy Orange, complete with the
proper starter and canister style oil filter. It is backed by the
correct Muncie 4-speed transmission, with a restored driveshaft
leading to the rear end equipped with 3.55 posi gears. Even the
fiberglass spare tire carrier is in place, completing this
exceptionally well restored undercarriage.
SERVICE: We take pride in our cars and our reputation. Every
vehicle goes through our service department where it is inspected,
test driven, and we address the essentials before offering it for
sale.
CONCLUSION: I look at collector cars every day, and this one
genuinely impresses me! It has the looks, the performance, and the
meticulous quality that separates it from the rest. You can go
inspect and test drive a hundred 1966 Corvettes, but I believe this
one will rank among the very best. If you're looking for one you'll
be proud to own, show, and drive, this is it!
