For Sale: 1937 Ford 1-1/2 Ton Pickup in SAN DIEGO, California

Vehicle Description

1937 Ford 1 1/2 Ton Texaco Tanker

This was built by previous owner with patina metal and aged wood. I have owned it for a few years, and it has been fun to drive. The driving experience takes you back to the 1930's. Double clutching, and braking are an adventure due to the weight, but safer and easier with the power hydraulic brakes. I've had it on the freeway several time around 60 mph. Would be a fun parade vehicle. The passenger side wood panel drops down for parade seating.

Locally Owned and Driven for many years this truck makes its way to and from the shows and when he shows up the the looks and awe's wind up, it not uncommon to find this truck at various car shows throughout southern California often winning for its unique style, design and theme. Presents well with all its Texaco memorabilia, the Kids love it, peoples choice is always a top consideration, and  it drives !! Boy does it drive, it isn't no Cadillac but its robust spartan feel on the highway gives you a experience you cannot duplicate in todays modern vehicles, It takes you back to 1937. The attention getter you've been looking for is here, it makes a great parade vehicle, show vehicle and all around cool rig to display in any collection.  The vehicle is located in San Diego, but is offsite please contact us to set up a appointment for viewing if interested.

ENGINE:
239 flathead with original 4 speed double clutch transmission. Engine was converted to a pressurized oil system with an oil filter. Engine was built with hardened seat by Brother's Customs in Troy, Michigan. I use 10-40 oil with ZDDP. Exhaust manifolds are wrapped in heat wrap by Heat Shield Products.

TRANSMISSION:
Original double clutch non-synchro four speed

FUEL SYTEM:
Dual Holley 94 carburetors were rebuilt two years ago, and I redid the linkage with adjustable heim joints with a Lokar throttle cable for smooth operation. The gas tank is actually one of the tall Texaco drums behind the passenger door, and fed by an electric fuel pump.

COOLING:
Cooled by a Spal electric fan with stock re-cored radiator. Both water pumps rebuilt. Never overheats since I've owned it on hot days or freeway traffic.

BRAKES:
Mechanical brakes converted to hydraulic with power brakes
1941 front 1.5t spindles to the original ’37 axle. Has A Corvette style dual master with booster. Front brake were rebuilt with NOS drums by me, and shoes were re-lined and ached to the drum for maximum braking friction.

REAR END:
1983 F350 dually rear axle for hydraulic and lower gear ratio. Original axle was 6.67 ratio, so 40 mph top speed. Now, it can reach 60 mph. Drive shaft was converted to open drive shaft to be able top use the 83 rear end. Dual drive shaft w/ carrier bearing designed by previous owner, made by Dynotech, Troy, MI.

ELECTRICAL:
Converted to 12 volts with alternator.  Was rewired EZ Wiring. I replaced the spark plugs wires with retro looking ones from Speed Way. All new gauges from Speed Hut with GPS speedo. Has a backup camera with rear view display. The battery was just replaced.

STEERING AND SUSPENSION:
Rebuilt stock. Has the original Fatman steering wheel.

WHEEL AND TIRES:
The wheels were converted from the inner tube widow maker wheels to 70-76 Dodge M500 wheels for stock appearance. The tires are radials, and I replaced the fronts with newer take-offs.

MORE INFORMATION:
I removed the hood side panels, but still have them. Installed leather tie down straps from Limeworks Hotrod Parts.

The front windshield is new, and the crank out mechanism works great.

The truck came with the side glass that I never installed. I also have new horizontal door felts. The regulators are in the doors.

I also converted the driver's side latch to Bear Claw, because the door would not stay latched at times. I did not convert the passenger side, but have the parts. The outside door handle is not connected. Never got around to figuring out the rod connection, but since I did not install the side glass, I just reach for the inside handle. That could be your first project along with installing the door glass.

All the Texaco cans come with the truck.

Texaco letters are real vintage porcelain.

The 750 gallon five chamber tank is real and period correct size for the truck, Used from the 1934 - 1940's. The plumbing for the tank has been removed. The rear chamber is used for storage.

BODY:
No body filler other than skim coat. Cab is solid. The fenders and grill are both NOS. Whatever dents there are, were left on purpose for the patina look. Painted with Hot Rod Flatz Urethane Black, Green, and Red.

The truck is 19 feet long, and was weighed at 7000 lbs.
