1968 Chevrolet K10 4x4 Pickup - Frame-Off Restomod
The 1967-72 Chevrolet pickup is the most admired truck design
General Motors ever produced, and the K10 four-wheel-drive version
has become the one everybody wants. Finding a true K10 body and
chassis matters here - plenty of trucks wearing four-wheel-drive
badges started life as two-wheel-drive C10s. This one did not. It
is the real thing, and it received a full frame-off
restoration.
The drivetrain is where a restomod earns its keep. An LS
fuel-injected V8 replaces the original engine, dressed with a
custom intake cover and valve covers so the modern hardware reads
as intentional rather than transplanted. Fuel injection means it
starts cold without ceremony, idles properly, and returns fuel
economy no 1968 truck ever managed. Custom hot-coated headers feed
a custom exhaust, and an aluminum radiator handles cooling. A
stainless gas tank eliminates the single most common long-term
headache on trucks of this age. Power routes through a 4L60
automatic with overdrive - the transmission that transforms these
trucks from short-hop machines into genuine highway cruisers.
Four-wheel drive is fully functional and correctly executed with
Warn lockout hubs, the standard by which everything else in that
category is measured. Power steering and power disc brakes address
the two areas where a stock 1968 truck feels its age most, and the
difference in daily drivability is substantial.
The presentation matches the mechanical work. Custom House of Kolor
candy paint gives the body the depth and dimension that only a
properly layered candy finish delivers. Moto Metal wheels and new
tires set the stance. An automatic drop-down "E" step plate deploys
on approach, which is both a genuine convenience on a lifted truck
and the detail that gets the most attention at a show.
Inside, the cabin has been fully reworked in leather across the
seats and door panels, with custom electric gauges, a tilt steering
column, and a custom steering wheel. A Retro Sound system with
Kicker amplification handles audio while preserving the correct
vintage dash appearance. Vintage Air-style air conditioning makes
it usable in the summer, which is not a small consideration.
The result is a truck built to be driven and enjoyed rather than
trailered - modern reliability underneath, and the shape everyone
recognizes on top.
