2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT - Barrett-Jackson Edition
Convertible
Some cars are rare by accident. This one was rare on purpose. The
Barrett-Jackson Edition Shelby GT was a collaboration between
Shelby Automobiles and the auction house itself, built in a run of
just 100 cars. Only 39 of those were convertibles. Every one was
finished at Shelby's Las Vegas facility, and every one carries
documentation tying it directly to the program.
The build sheet reads like a wish list rather than an option list.
The 4.6L V8 wears a 2.8L supercharger system, fed by GT500 fuel
pumps and backed by high-performance tuning that pushes output past
450 horsepower. Kooks long-tube headers and a Borla ATAK exhaust
handle the exhale - the ATAK being Borla's most aggressive tune,
and entirely appropriate here. The automatic transmission has been
upgraded and paired with a high-performance torque converter and
cooler, so the driveline is built to live with what the blower is
asking of it.
The chassis received the same attention. Baer brakes, Steeda
suspension refinements, Pro Action shocks, billet lower control
arms, and an adjustable Panhard bar address the S197's known weak
points directly. This is a car that was engineered to be driven
hard, not simply badged and sold.
Visually it is unmistakable. Black clearcoat with red
Barrett-Jackson badging, a functional-look hood scoop, billet
grille, and 20-inch Shelby CS 69 wheels wrapped in Pirelli P Zeros.
It has the stance and presence these cars were built to have.
Inside is where the provenance lives. The leather seating is
embroidered with Barrett-Jackson logos and carries Carroll Shelby's
signature. The steering wheel is a serialized Shelby GT/SC unit,
and Shelby gauges complete the instrumentation. Most significantly,
the dashboard bears three signatures: Carroll Shelby,
Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson, and Barrett-Jackson
President Steve Davis.
That last detail matters more every year. Carroll Shelby passed
away in 2012, and signed cars from his final decade have become the
most closely watched corner of the Shelby market. With 39
convertibles built and a signature that can no longer be added to
anything, this is a modern collectible with a genuinely fixed
supply.
