1965 Pontiac GTO Convertible - Mayfair Maize, PHS Documented with
Original Paperwork
Documentation is what separates a good GTO from a serious one, and
this convertible arrives with about as complete a file as a 1965
Pontiac can carry. PHS documentation verifies how it was built. The
cowl tag reads O6C - assembled at the Pontiac, Michigan plant
during the third week of June - and the "N" in Group 5 designates
the GTO option itself, the detail that confirms this as a true
factory GTO convertible rather than a Tempest or LeMans wearing
badges.
The engine matches the story. It is a "WT"-coded 389 rated at 335
horsepower, on casting number 9779797, backed by a four-speed with
a Hurst shifter and the correct "WF"-coded 3.23 ratio rear end.
It comes with the original Protect-O-Plate, protection plan
warranty documentation, the original owner's booklet, and - the
detail that makes collectors smile - the GeeTo record, Pontiac's
promotional disc playable at either 33 or 45. Those records were
tossed by the thousands. Finding one still with the car it came
with is genuinely uncommon.
Factory Code Y Mayfair Maize is one of the best colors Pontiac
offered in 1965 and looks its best on a convertible with the top
down. The power top itself is new. Correct Rally I wheels wrapped
in BFG radials set the stance, and the car has come out of a
private North Carolina collection.
Inside, bucket seats and console give it the proper layout, with
the factory tachometer and gauge package - one of the more
desirable options on any early GTO and something reproduction
dashes never quite match.
Power steering and power disc brakes handle the driving experience.
Disc brakes on a 1965 GTO are a meaningful upgrade over the
standard drums, and they make a heavy convertible genuinely
comfortable in modern traffic.
A documented, correctly coded, well-optioned 1965 GTO convertible
with original paperwork intact. This is the version of the car the
market has been chasing for years.
Available now in our climate-controlled indoor showroom. Full
inspection and document review welcome.
