Some cars get restored. Some get modified. Very few survive long
enough to become legends.
This 1988 Pontiac Trans Am GTA Slick Top is one of those
legends.
Showing an unbelievable 3,803 original miles, this GTA is about as
close to stepping back into a Pontiac showroom as you'll ever
experience. It still wears all of its original Bright Red factory
paint with the exception of the rear spoiler, and even today many
of the original assembly line markings remain visible throughout
the car. Original paint line inspection tags were even preserved
from the backs of the front and rear bumper covers-a level of
originality that serious collectors dream about.
Opening the door reveals the stunning Bright Red and Gray leather
interior, one of the most iconic color combinations ever offered in
a third-generation Trans Am. The leather seats, door panels,
carpet, and trim remain beautifully preserved, perfectly
complementing the vibrant exterior and reinforcing just how
exceptional this low-mile survivor truly is.
This isn't just another low-mile GTA. It's a multiple award-winning
example that has taken home its class-or Best in Class-every time
it has been shown.
Protecting that incredible originality was the owner's highest
priority. The front end, mirrors, rocker panels, and rear lower
skirts are wrapped in premium paint protection film, while the
entire car is coated with a Ceramic Pro coating backed by a
seven-year warranty. Even the original windshield is protected with
an exterior film, allowing the car to be driven and enjoyed without
sacrificing its factory finish.
Under the hood, every upgrade was chosen with one goal in
mind-using the best factory-style components Pontiac enthusiasts
always wanted.
Every available dealer-installed SLP performance option was sourced
and installed, including the Cold Air Intake, throttle body plate,
intake runners, and the top-of-the-line SLP exhaust system with
massive 1?-inch primary headers. Nearly every SLP component is
genuine NOS (New Old Stock), while the exhaust system has been
professionally coated in silver Jet-Hot for long-term durability. A
rare NOS spare center exhaust pipe is also included.
Handling received the same obsessive attention.
The suspension features virtually every premium component offered
by Spohn Performance, including a tubular chromoly K-member,
tubular front and rear control arms, Wonder Bar, weld-in subframe
connectors, and rear control arm relocation brackets. These
upgrades dramatically improve handling while reinforcing the
chassis against the well-known flex and roof cracking issues common
to third-generation F-bodies.
Adjustable Koni Yellow shocks and Eibach lowering springs give the
car an aggressive stance without sacrificing ride quality. Hawk
Performance 17-inch wheels complete the look, while the original
16-inch wheels with their factory Goodyear VR50 tires are included
for collectors who appreciate complete originality.
Stopping power has been upgraded with a fourth-generation F-body
front brake conversion using billet hubs from Big Brake Upgrade,
with every original brake component included.
Fuel and ignition have been modernized without permanently altering
the car. A Racetronix high-flow fuel pump system, Hypertech High
Output Stealth ignition coil, Accel ignition components, Holley
adjustable fuel pressure regulator, and a custom-burned performance
chip using a Moates ZIF socket adapter maximize drivability while
preserving the original wiring harness. Even the factory fuel
injectors were professionally cleaned and flow-tested before being
reinstalled.
Inside, the factory appearance remains beautifully intact while
subtle upgrades improve the driving experience. A like-new factory
radio now features an AUX input, Pioneer speakers provide modern
sound quality, and Dynamat insulation significantly reduces road
noise. An ultra-rare NOS factory overhead console adds one more
impossible-to-find factory accessory to an already incredible
car.
The factory air conditioning compressor had seized before the
current owner acquired the car, providing the perfect opportunity
to install a complete Classic Auto Air system utilizing modern
refrigerant. The result is an air conditioning system that blows
ice cold while dramatically outperforming the original setup.
Perhaps the best part?
Every original component removed during the upgrades accompanies
the sale, along with numerous spare parts and a brand-new factory
GM shop manual set. Nothing has been thrown away. Nothing has been
lost. Everything has been preserved.
Finding a third-generation GTA with this level of originality is
nearly impossible.
Finding one with only 3,803 original miles, a Bright Red exterior,
a Bright Red and Gray leather interior, protected from day one,
upgraded with rare NOS components, professionally engineered
suspension improvements, and every original part still
included...
That's something you may never see again.
This is the type of third-generation F-body that rarely changes
hands. Whether you're a serious Pontiac collector or simply want
one of the finest surviving GTA Slick Tops in existence, this is an
opportunity that's becoming harder to find with every passing
year.
